NEW INTERVIEW DROP🎙️🌍Last week I had the pleasure of talking with Sophie from the @gen_dread / @unthinkable.earth for their newsletter about how the climate crisis is making us feel, why that’s happening, and what we can do about it. I’m a BIG fan of Britt Wray and all the thoughtful work she does in the world, so i’m just gushing with joy to have been apart of this project. I would love to hear your thoughts, reactions, and questions if you have them in the comments! Read the full interview at @gen_dread / @unthinkable.earth substack.com🌀🌍🤍#climatementalhealth #climatepsychology #climatesomatics #embodiment #socialjusticeembodiment#somaticcoaching#climatecoaching#climategrief#climateanxiety by @somaresiliency

A Linkedin poll (2023) found that 57% of 246 participants who work in climate, energy, and sustainability identified as neurodivergent. That’s significant, and cool! Research on this intersection is extremely limited, so would you be down for an experiment? First time doing a poll…so tap in!Q: If you work in climate (policy, activism, journalism, health, etc)…how would you identify? by @somaresiliency

For the past year, I’ve been navigating new levels of chronic pain. Whether it’s hitting 35, perimenopause, or years of sports — i believe it’s here to stay. I still have moments I refuse to accept it. Or wishing it’s temporary. But i’m learning to honor and listen!Despite waking up in the middle of the night to find a bag of frozen berries to treat sudden pain (i know i need ice packs but ya girl procrastinates), I decided to take advantage of temps below 80F and go on a bike ride. Since dealing with my new normal, I have taken a big break from riding. As one of my all time favorite ways of exploring and getting around — it’s been heartbreaking.A rare window, I took it. And so it was a sweet surprise. Coincidentally, i’m at a point in my manuscript where I’m writing about the intersection between neurodivergence, disability, chronic pain and climate survival. The longer I live in a sick body, the more I realize how much of a teacher it is. Illness forces me to see the sacred in slowing down. I cannot simply hustle harder or push my way out of pain. I need to be with it. It forces me to.Living in sensitive bodies, already at the margins, we feel climate change more intensely and that gives us insight into preparedness, care and adaptation. We are uniquely positioned to collaborate with collapse and teach our communities about survival.I wonder, if the Earth metabolizes rot, can ill bodies be the way through collective trauma + transformation? What question would you add?💚 by @somaresiliency

For the last 4 days, i’ve been immersed in climate care and freedom visioning with dear friends from @climatecarecollaborative at the beautiful @maplegrovehotsprings. What a gift 💚 No internet! No service! No outside contact! Just flowing coffee, warm strategy, and good rest.Without getting too vulnerable, i’ve struggled to stay committed to my climate work over the years. Between becoming a full time freelancer/ business owner and surviving Hurricane Helene, I’ve let self-doubt and burnout creep into my life. While I don’t quite know my next steps, I am certain of 3 things: 1) As climate people, it is our responsibility to be trauma literate and bring the body into the conversation for more presence with contradiction and complexity, 2) Critique is not betrayal, but an act of profound devotion, 3) Learn to walk with heartbreak, and say yes, you never know where you’ll find co-conspirators, mentors, and beloved peers. I refuse to do any of this alone. I need you. I need us.And a special shoutout to my Iranian-Armenian sister @lydiavioletmusic, who made me feel at home.#climatecarecollaborative #acmhs26 by @somaresiliency

Extending beyond mainstream wellness narrative keeps me going. If we are truly for collective liberation, we must uncover traps that keep us powerless. In researching how modern neoliberal society has come to commodify trauma healing, I found @catherineliuanon ‘s critical work. Enjoy excerpts from her essay here, published by @noemamag in 2023. Read the whole article on their site. by @somaresiliency

Trying hard to regulate as the world burns but still feel frozen and overwhelmed? That’s because bodies aren’t meant to regulate or be “managed” out of discomfort - we’re wired to intimately interact and respond to our environments! To grieve if there’s loss. To run if there’s danger. To help if there’s need. To defend if there’s an attack. To play if there’s safety. We practice somatics to re-engage with the world, especially when the pull to numb is strong. And to shift old patterns, including ones entrenched by oppressive social systems. This work is slow, relational, and curious at heart. If you’re looking for support on your journey, my 1:1 somatic coaching books are now open 🔗 in bio for a free curiosity call.Have questions? Whether preparing for a winter storm or returning home from protesting…doing it solo and without any family around is a weight many of us carry. Often in silence. Sometimes, it even feels embarrassing to admit. While i’m incredibly grateful for friends who check-in and local mutual aid hubs, at the end of the day i’m the one running errands, cleaning, prepping, and worrying about how i’ll stay warm.In a time when community and collective care is rightly being given attention - we can easily forget that phases exist: in-between, not yet, transition, building trust, loss, a move, a change in boundaries, lone wolf era, etc.So as I sit in my living room tent, thinking about icing my back, I want to take a moment to uplift all you single, hot, 30-40 yr olds!! If someone hasn’t told you lately how much of a badass you are, let me remind you!!In the words of Snoop, I wanna thank me 🌀A special shoutout to Minneapolis singles who are protesting all day in the cold and come home to quiet. May we touch the threads of strength and liberation that connect us, if only in our hearts and minds. by @somaresiliency

Took my heavy heart and favorite mended pants to a mending + repair exhibit at @penlandtextiles artist @celiapym 🪡 . I left thinking about damaged objects and how they are like our unruly disabled bodies - deserving of care and attention through sickness, cracks, and change. A wound, like a tear, prove life lived.Bonus mood boost, meeting an Irish horse. by @somaresiliency

👋🏼Logging off…(for a bit) typing from the homeland. Dear friends, I can no longer ignore the urge in me to disappear from social media. To write my book, weave intricate ideas, travel inward, complete 5+ projects(😝), reclaim attention, and reconnect with my authentic voice. I pickup my phone as a habit, and end up activating my fight/ flight response. I notice how irritable I become after scrolling. Short-form media is changing our brains, that’s certain.Anyways, I’ve re-written this in my head a hundred times, but it’s time I go public. Hoping this helps me stay accountable. Hoping I return with more clarity for my presence here. So watch this space for future offerings. Most importantly, I don’t want to step back without sharing. Not because I owe an announcement, but because i’ve formed amazing, thoughtful connections with so many of you. IG has blessed me with my kinda people, my peers in liberation.🍒Follow my newsletter 🔗 in bio.🍒Email selin@carewildlysomatics.comAnd I can’t sign off without sending love + gratitude to my fellow Hurricane Helene survivors. 1 year of mutual aid, rural care, and community study. I wouldn’t want to do it with anyone else💚xo, Selin Marketphoto by @joynewell by @somaresiliency
