I'm actually a STEM major doing my Master's Degree in Planetary Science, and part of my research involves making high pressure mineral phases, of which include Diamonds. @vietcuongmusic wrote a wonderful piece called "Diamond Tide" inspired by the hypothesis of a diamond ocean on Ice Giants such as Neptune and Uranus, in which percussionists slowly lower crotales into water to bend the pitch. Coincidentally, my lab has several metal disks laying around unused, so I repurposed one of them into a sort of crotale to try the pitch bending thing out for myself, before attempting to synthesize another high-pressure mineral phase (Stishovite) with our 1000 ton press. Not sure if "Stishovite Tide" rolls off the tongue as well, though. #STEM #STEAM #Diamond #MineralPhysics #ConcertBand #WindEnsemble #Polymorphism #STEMinTheArts #Percussion #Crotales #Band #Research #Geology #HighPressure #HighTemperature #HPHT #PlanetaryScience #Mantle #Core by @some_performer

I was fortunate enough to participate in a production of "The Unsinkable Molly Brown", playing 2nd Trumpet. As someone completely new to gigging, I was very fortunate to get to play with musicians who were familiar with this kind of environment and help me grow as a musician. This was an unforgettable experience, and I hope to get to do a musical theater gig again in the future! taken in James B. Castle High School by @some_performer

Until the Scars by John Mackey I got a new phone recently. Also confession time; I'm not a music major, I'm actually a STEM major who likes music #mackey #untilthescars #trumpet #concertband #band #windensemble #cornet #obnoxioushashtagging taken in University of Hawaii at Manoa by @some_performer

first two clips are Until the Scars (Mackey) and the other two clips are Joy (Curiale), uploaded late cause I passed out after I got home it's getting better but I'm fracking still LOL I used my 5C at marching band today and it felt more comfortable; like I felt like I could put more air through the horn? Also last week I played at my first football game in almost two years; even though we lost we pissed off San Jose State's Radio so it was worth it #trumpet #concertband #cornet #flugelhorn #practice #rehearsal #symphonicband #windensemble #music #classicalmusic #johnmackey #mackey #joy #band #obnoxioushashtagging #forthealgorithm taken in University of Hawaii at Manoa by @some_performer

First three clips are John Mackey's "Until the Scars" and the last clip is Kelijah Dunton's "Stillwater" I'm rusty I know In all seriousness I gotta work on everything (tone, technique, more air, etc.) but here seems like a good starting point at least. #johnmackey #untilthescars #kelijahdunton #stillwater #concertband #band #trumpet taken in University of Hawaii at Manoa by @some_performer

OW OW MY LIPS (Might want to turn down your volume for this) seriously tho after the first few runs I'm just constantly cracking; I recorded a full run of the piece and this is the only part that sounds acceptable. Still gotta work on that upper range. by @some_performer

RIP chops First clip is Ewazen, second is an arrangement of Bugler's Holiday My audio quality doesn't do me justice, but that's okay because I'm not doing the pieces justice just yet. I chopped off a good portion of the Ewazen recording because I was just too tired to hit a lot of the notes LOL by @some_performer

Eric Ewazen's Concert Fanfare, mm 1-6, Trumpet 1 For concert band this semester, we were split into same-instrument choirs, so a lot of my posts for this semester will probably be from that sort of music. That said, this is my first time playing lead in a concert setting (I usually play 2nd or 3rd in other concert groups) so Woodshedding is a lot harder. But I'll keep trying to improve my... everything. by @some_performer
