I’ve slept on floors, slept on air mattresses, slept on crusty couches/futons, slept in my car, slept on strangers shoulders, spent A LOT of time avoiding sleep altogether.
But I’ve never slept on myself and my appreciation for the little victories in life and the people that help make them happen - so far that has made all the difference. #LiveFastLoveFull 🫶 taken in E-V-E-R-Y-W-H-E-R-E by @some_shepherd

Friendly Reminder: #life is hard - that’s inevitable. But we’re blessed to have the ability to choose whether we quit or face those challenges head on and then be rewarded for it. I’d love to hear about your recent wins you’re proud of earning (doesn’t matter what it is), so I can celebrate it with you 🎉. This is what my life has looked like the past few weeks. Lots of #sheep, #cattle, and time in front of a microscope. I’ve been putting my all into becoming an effective contributor to the livestock industry. Cause right or wrong everything I care about is tied to it, and I’m learning not to feel like that’s wrong. A work life balance is an aimless conversation to have with me when those two are one and the same. Working towards my goals is exactly what makes my life sustainable. So sorry not sorry but that’s just the way I’m wired.

My recent accomplishments during this grad school adventure have gone beyond money or any other common metric of success that anyone can easily measure. Rather its been about the victories most don’t begin to appreciate. Looking beyond what’s quantifiable. For me, it’s been about subtle refinements to skills I aspire to master. It’s been about fearlessly pursuing my goals and meeting as many wonderful people as I can in the process.

I’ve just been learning to be the man that I am.

Thank you to my mentors for offering your time, perspective, and expertise. All of which has helped me set out on a unique time in my life. I get to enrich my competencies in sheep reproduction, gene-editing, and cooperative extension outreach.

✌️+ 💙,
AB

What a privilege to be welcomed on numerous ranches this weekend to further our summer research and have holistic conversations around producers’ operational objectives, needs, and the tools used to make their breeding & management decisions! I’m so grateful for the diverse mentorship UC Davis vet med and animal science faculty have offered me. I started this M.S. degree with a broad hunch on how I could offer merit to an industry and community I sincerely care about. Each one of these experiences has helped me see how I may best fit into the picture to maximize the net merit I can offer livestock producers while doing what I love. Special thank you to @ucce.sheepngoat for welcoming me into her lab this summer, facilitating these connections, and so willingly answering my MANY questions. #sheepresearch #ranchlife #summerfellowship #california #ucdavisvetmed taken in Humboldt County by @some_shepherd
