Today we hit our mahogany anniversary. Mahogany symbolizes strength and durability. It is also one of the most desirable and expensive woods used in fine furniture. Shit, it averages $8 to $15 per board foot. A 1x6 African mahogany board is $62.72 at Home Depot. Facts, son.

I haven't been on social media for awhile...gonna keep this short at the risk of triggering my foot in mouth condition. My wife is cool as fuck. Some random stuff that supports this statement: She's a tireless entrepreneur, charitable activist, and she has incredible relationships with our daughters. We binge watch a lot of TV. She likes fancy coffees. I enjoy them with her. She has put up with my BS for 27 years. Not sure if that says more about her than me. But I feel lucky. I could be watching TV by myself drinking shitty coffee.

Visited America's first national park over Father's Day weekend with the missus. Free for veterans and their accompanied family thanks to the National Defense Authorization Act. A bill passed in 2022 by an administration that truly respected those who served.

Today I'd like to thank not only veterans but also the VA who serves them. They awarded me a 40% disability rating for tinnitus and plantar fasciitis. The former I got from firing M16's, SAWs and M60's with poor ear protection. The latter from road marching over lava rock while carrying those M16's SAWs, and M60's. Oh yeah, and a ruck sack filled with MRE's and canned oysters. Canned oysters were currency in the field.

TBH, I thought my hearing was perfectly fine after the service. Until I started playing amplified instruments for 3+ years. Legs/feet were fine, too. At least until I went into my "running is so cool" phase, logging multiple marathons, halves, 10ks, etc for 4+ years.

Veterans Affairs. Connecting civilian injuries to military service. They are the real heroes.

Today my wife and I celebrate another wedding anniversary. 26 years of joy and sorrow. 1,352 weeks of shared triumph and disappointment. 9,490 days of laughter and tears. In that time we've raised 2 beautiful, now adult children whose futures are seemingly less certain than ours were.

Our marriage endured over six and a half presidential terms across 5 administrations. It will continue to endure past the 47th and beyond. But not through complacency. Through continued love, compassion, understanding, and hard work. Like, defiantly hard work. Work of the bonecrushingly relentless variety.

Did I just roll a political statement into an anniversary post? Why yes, it appears I have. Weird times.

Having a proud husband moment. I can't think of a better reason to break my self-imposed, therapist recommended social media sabbatical.

Elizabeth is kind of a big deal, it would seem. Which is not a revelatory thing to say about your wife, obviously. But witnessing her be so well received and recognized at an international conference was pretty eff'n awesome.
