You missed one day.

Your brain: “Cool. Guess we’re starting over Monday.”

Except you didn’t lose the days you already showed up. One gap isn’t a reset — it’s information.

Somehow Growing is built for that moment: keep your history, take a smaller next step, and come back without the guilt spiral.

Comebacks are progress.
Not perfect. Still growing.

Four show-up days and three missed days can both be true. The seven-day diagram in this carousel is illustrative; it is not the account shown in the product screenshots.

In Somehow Growing, Momentum reflects recent and sustained consistency, weighted toward the last seven days, so it can change after missed days. Earned Growth counts a positive day at most once per date and does not go backwards after a miss. The app screens are separate simulator examples.

Save this for the next uneven week. What is one honest next step you can see from your record? Forest-green cover with a botanical line drawing and a seven-day row. Four days are marked and three are empty. Text asks: Four days showed up. Three did not. What counts? by @somehowgrowing

Three days away does not have to mean starting over. In this illustrative example, Sunday had a check-in, Monday through Wednesday had no meaningful progress, and Thursday brought one page toward an active ten-page reading goal. One page is partial progress, not a finished goal.

Somehow Growing recognizes a qualifying Comeback when progress resumes after three complete days away. Earlier effort remains in the record. The app screen is a separate simulator example.

An ambitious Sunday plan is easy to write for a Thursday you have not lived yet. In this fictional example, Thursday has a late meeting, low energy and only twenty minutes before bed. A five-minute read fits the day.

Keep the record honest. Five minutes toward a thirty-minute target is five minutes of partial progress, not a completed thirty-minute goal. Deliberately set a smaller future target if that is the version you can sustain.

Try the last slide as a template: After [a cue], I will [a tiny action]. If I miss it, I will try at [the next cue]. Save it for your next low-energy day. Somehow Growing helps you track the honest version on iPhone. Warm editorial photograph of two blank paper sheets on a desk, one folded, with a pencil and leaf. A habit isn’t built on a universal 21-day schedule.

Try a cue, make the first step easier, and decide how you’ll return after a miss. Save the seven-day check-in at the end—it’s for spotting friction, not measuring a countdown.

In Lally et al.’s real-world study, modeled time to 95% of each participant’s automaticity plateau ranged from 18–254 days among 62 fitted curves. Those are estimates from one study; this isn’t a personal timeline. One missed opportunity didn’t materially affect habit formation in that study.

Reading one page, a five-minute walk, and the seven-day check-in are practical examples—not experimentally established doses.

I broke up with my planner. It was moving way too fast. 😅

An imperfect week doesn't erase the effort you already made. Sometimes the next step is just a ten-minute walk.

My planner writes fan fiction. A 5 a.m. run? Love that for fictional me. 📝

New plot: a ten-minute walk. What's the actually-doable version of your plan?

Only got ten minutes? That counts.

A brisk walk after lunch is one small place to start. The goal is to make movement easier to repeat.

For adults, WHO recommends 150–300 minutes of moderate aerobic activity a week, or equivalent vigorous activity. Some activity is better than none. Ten minutes is a starting idea, not the full weekly recommendation.

Small enough to start. Easy enough to repeat.

apparently buying the outfit, making the playlist, and emotionally supporting the water bottle is not the workout.

fine. 10 minute walk it is.
