Another glimpse of the baby Krampuses because I keep forgetting to photograph anything else I'm working on lately but need the algorithm to not forget me. ☺️

Spending the day helping Dad today. Next week I'll be back with some new critters and other projects I'll have with me at the upciming Christmas markets.

Hope your day is as cheerful as these baby Krampuses in the forest.

The baby Krampuses have multiplied, and it turns out they love Brussels sprouts! Who knew? 😁

Happy Thanksgiving to my Canadian friends!

A snowy owl variation, using the same basic design as my barn owl kit.

I hope you're having a nice autumn long weekend. And if you're not, (because sometimes extra family time can be trying) may you still find moments of stillness and beauty to appreciate.

What about a baby Krampus? Is this just silly (like felting a baby Santa? πŸ˜†). Yay or nay? I can't decide.

Trying to come up with a simpler version of Krampus that could be teachable in a 2 hour class rather than the 4 or 5 hour class my original felted Krampus design requires. Also, maybe a kit. But maybe I need to simplify even more than this.

But there is something kind of cute about this one. He would make a unique tree ornament.

And while I sometimes find it hard to get working on Christmas designs at this time of year, this little guy fits right into the season.

Happy Thursday. May you find moments of ease and coziness in your day.

I would pay extra for things made with fabrics washed with unscented/eco-friendly soaps. I know they are more expensive (because this is what I use) but I would happily pay a bit more to be able to wear a thing I love right away.

I really struggle with the scent of the terribly artificial, candy-sweet laundry soap in particular. I feel ill from it. I'm not being dramatic, I'm just incredibly sensitive and this one physically hurts me. Headaches and sinus issues and sometimes I get sneezing fits too. I also get rashes if I do try to wear things washed with this next to my skin (I have tried a few times, because I felt like I was being dramatic, but nope! Bad idea! Then I did learn more about these soaps and found out they actually are really bad for us!)

I know I'm not the only one who has these troubles. And I don't know how to bring it up in person, ever, so I'm just being a chicken and posting it on the internet where maybe someone who makes beautiful things with fabrics will realize the soap they use is maybe stopping some sales. (And is also harmful to them as well). And maybe they'll stop using it, and maybe they'll tell other makers too, and maybe word will spread and everyone will stop using this soap and then the companies will stop making it and we will all be healthier! (It's nice to dream anyway) πŸ˜”πŸ˜Š

If you're not sensitive to scents then of course you wouldn't know what a huge issue it can be for those of us who are. Not judging you for not knowing! There is already way too much to navigate while buying groceries these days! (Sorry, not sorry, to add one more thing)

Thrift store clothes (V.V. especially) also have this scent. It's awful! I soak newly thrifted clothes in the machine with a cup of baking soda overnight and then run them through the rest of the cycle in the morning and then run them through again with an eco-friendly soap (without the obnoxious artificial scents and "forever chemicals"). This makes them wearable (briefly) after one wash instead of 5, and after another wash the smell is usually close to gone.

But for pieces that can't go in the wash it's more difficult...

Every time I open my email these days I have several more scammy emails claiming to be from Christmas markets inviting me to apply to be a vendor. It's getting ridiculous so I can't be the only one and I just wanted to say:

Don't fall for it!

Especially if you are new, it might feel exciting. Many of them begin with something like, "I found your page and am so impressed with how your [insert complimentary adjective and a product you sell here] are so [insert meaningful word here], and you seem perfect for our Christmas market..."

The fees will be between $200-$500+ and spaces will be limited...

But the tried and true multi-day markets charging these sorts of fees (as opposed to one-day or newer markets charging under $100) are pretty much never accepting vendors this late in the game, let alone seeking them out.

Applications for bigger markets are usually due early in the year. And they certainly don't need to try to seek out vendors; it's up to vendors to seek out and apply to these markets.

The other scam is scarier to me because it will be from a bigger market you ve already been accepted to and look like if you don't pay a damage deposit fee now, you'll lose your spot.

It's so sad to see this. It's a busy season for vendors and there is so much to be done this time of year that it could be easy to not manage to be always on high alert and to fall for one of these scams.

I know for me, with all the worries of having all my market paperwork in order, I could be susceptible, and even a few short years ago I think I might have panicked and paid.

If you do ever fall for one, don't feel bad. They are becoming harder and harder to spot and you are working so hard and just trying to be a good vendor... if you contact your bank you should hopefully be able to recover the money.

I rhink the best hope we have is to just keep telling others about the scams to be aware of.

Stay safe and good luck.

Terri

Would you like to learn how to felt this owl? Then you should definitely come to my Owl Workshop!

Saturday, September 26th from 11 am -1 pm

Enjoy a lovely and relaxing few hours of crafting in a relaxed atmosphere in the beautiful barn at Edgewood Farm!

I love this space so much! The scent of old wood and coffee reminds me of the General Store at Barkerville and fills me with nostalgia every time I walk in. The coffee and tea are excellent, and I always find a new treasure I just have to have while perusing their gift shop!

The workshop area is spacious and comfortable (and if you've ever found that you've wanted a bit more light on cloudy days, I will be bringing extra lamps with me this time just in case).

There are just 7 spots left for this class now, so message me it you would like to register.

65/person and you get to make one owl in class and take home all your tools and supplies (in one of my pretty book boxes) with enough wool to make a second owl (includes instructions in case you forget any of the steps). You could also gift the kit to someone else who loves owls (and I will also have a selection of my other kits with me should you wish to get a headstart on your Christmas shopping! Cash or tap).

These classes are always something I enjoy so much and we tend to laugh a lot!

Hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Charms for Protection from Trolls. 🧌 😁

I thought about this one for quite a while. Then in July I had a bunch of follows from accounts that do not seem to belong to my usual demographic.

That is: middle-late age men (or possibly bots). Often men in uniforms, or a page of nothing but car photos, or photos overlaid with old testament quotes, or all three.

I promptly deleted all of them, every time.

Which got me thinking about trolls and how to deal with trolls, and this is what inspired these charms.

I have an affinity towards certain plants and stones, and these are the things I tend to collect and use in my various work. I also learn all I can about the things I love, so I know much lore and symbolism about them.

As I sat at my desk and thought about trolls and how to deal with them, I gathered various ingredients to represent the things I was thinking. (I love to do this sort of physical brainstorming on a topic!)

The poem (or spell; for what is a poem, but a spell?), I wrote as I gathered the objects.

I thought it through very carefully and it is based on some thoughts I have about trolls:

First: I enjoy that they are called trolls because this conjures up an image for me of the trolls in "The Hobbit" and this fanciful and unflattering way of thinking of them already removes some of their power.

-"Do not feed the Trolls." We hear this a lot. It's also good advice. They usually go away if they aren't fed. (Deleting and/or blocking is even more effective).

-I am confident and at ease in myself and will not rise to baiting nor be swayed in my love and appreciation of who I am. (Because sometimes they can rattle our confidence, even when we know better).

-moss represents nurturing and is a reminder to me to go to the forest to restore Myself to Myself whenever the internet is too much!

-(and the subtext here is that the trolls themselves are obviously lacking in self-love and peace and nurturing, and so the rose quartz and lavender and moss are also representing hope they can find those things and stop attacking others through their obvious misery).

I made a small batch of piratey mouse bone pendants and I'm definitely wearing one of these with my pirate outfit on the weekend!

I'll have these with me at the Mission Renaissance Faire this coming weekend.

A little bit about my felting kits.

All my kits are made entirely by me. I have never used ai for this and I never will. I enjoy the process and I have a system and I believe that human-made things matter! I'm so annoyed to see Etsy now full of patterns and kits for various crafts that are made by ai! Though the reviews do reflect the crappy quality as they are showing people's confusion or outrage at being unable to follow directions that make no sense. The original designs are usually stolen from someone else's work and the photos are sometimes directly from someone else's page (or else they are so tweaked and polished as to be obviously not real). But I digress...

First I prototype the design, then after trying out a few different versions of it, I settle on the one I want and make it again, taking hundreds of photos of the process. Then I choose which photos to use, edit them, size them, and then format them with instructions that I write myself and then edit myself (read it aloud for flow and you won't need ai to do it for you!).

Next I print and fold the instruction booklets, then weigh out the wool and assemble the kits. It is a time-consuming process but I love it and I know where the component parts are coming from and I trust my instructions to be something a human can actually follow.

These kits make great gifts! They are also so fun to do as a project together (and I do have add-ons with me at market and on my Etsy, so you can get extra tools in your kit so you can felt with a friend).

I will be in Prince Geore on Sunday, September 13 at the Ramada from 10-4 for the Great Northwest Fibre Fest!

The following weekend I will be in Mission for the Renaissance Faire for 3 days! (More on that soon!)

Back to work now.

I hope your transition into autumn is going smoothly so far.

Terri
