On Saturday, August 22, South Asia Institute welcomes writers, poets, scholars, and readers for the inaugural South Asian American Literary Festival (SAALF) 2026.�
�

We’ll kick off the day at 9:30 AM with opening remarks featuring the City of Chicago’s CPL Commissioner Brown, Ald. Pat Dowell of Ward 3, and South Asia Institute leadership, as we celebrate the vibrant literary voices of the South Asian American and diaspora communities.�
�

At 11:00 AM, join us for our keynote conversation with acclaimed writer and poet Fatimah Asghar, followed by a book signing.�
�

Spend the day with readings, conversations, panels, book signings, and opportunities to connect with some of the most compelling voices working across literature and culture today.�
�

And we’ll close out the festival with DJ music, dancing, and drinks from 6:00–7:30 PM!

We kicked off the very first Preoccupied Walking Book Club in Chicago with author Sonali Dev and How Simi Got Her Groom Back. We combined books, conversation, coffee, and sightseeing into one perfect Sunday morning.

We started at Paper Tiger, wandered through Oz Park, explored the Conservatory and Lily Pool, talked all things books along the way, and ended at Lilliput Books for some shopping.

Come walk with us for the next one on Sunday, August 30th at 11 am. Author Rowan Beaird will join us to discuss her book Tenderness at Montrose Beach.

Had the best time walking around #LincolnPark with the loveliest readers during our @preoccupiedchicago book club walk.
We discussed HOW SIMI GOT HER GROOM BACK and life. @papertigercafe has the best coffee and Oz Park, Lincoln Park Conservatory, and AJ Caldwell Lilly pond are gorgeous. Thank you so much Alyssa and the lovely readers who showed up. Bonus, my bestie from Mumbai got to be there. by @sonali.dev
