Some tracks take years to find their true form. “Wake Up” was born in Berlin in 2020 when Tooker wrote it during a period of solitude and reconnection. Nico Stojan heard it the next day, loved it, and together they built it up from a raw idea. It sat for years until JAW laid down vocals and gave it a voice. In the past year, David Mayer brought a whole new dimension that brought the track to where it is today.

This is the first release from SONARA since Nico passed this summer. The first of many of his unreleased tracks we’ll bring out in his honor.

“Wake Up” from @nico_stojan, @david_mayer, and @tookermusic featuring @nthdsy. September 25.

This is bittersweet because we were just chatting the other day about trying to get our music out to bigger radio stations.

Today, we’re happy to share that “I Am” was featured on Pete Tong’s show on BBC Radio 1, The Month in Dance: July 2026.

This one is for you, Nico 🩵🌊.

To our brother Nico,

Since learning of your passing last week, things have not been easy for us. At the same time, seeing the hundreds of people who have come from all over the world to show their love for you is such a beautiful thing. And, look how many lives you touched! It’s quite a high bar, Nico. You were the best at giving people the space and attention they deserved.

We (Chris, David, and Jay) spoke the other day at our regularly scheduled SONARA meetings. The ones you were typically late to ;) It was hard. We weren’t sure how we could have one without you. But, with some strength, we were able to come together on a call from Berlin, Brooklyn, and Sardinia. After many minutes of crying and even moments of laughter, one very important realization…SONARA would not exist at all had it not been for you. We know you probably knew that, but not in an egotistical way. Just that you are the connector who brought us all together, without you, we would’ve never come up with this beautiful project that has renewed our love, passion, and drive for the thing we all love most: music.

Early last year, we set out on a mission to address our individual and collective frustrations with how underground music was trending. Our individual passions for music were changing, so was yours. It wasn’t going to be an easy one, but we all knew that everyone brought something unique to the table, which, when combined, became a superpower. Something had to be done about it, and you, of all people, kept insisting: you insisted on love, friendship, connection, and above all, authenticity. And so, you manifested that reality by being your true self and by talking to each of us about the idea. “Wouldn’t it be cool if we all could work together on something and show the world what we have?” You would say with the utmost enthusiasm. With a rapidly followed outburst of, “Right, wouldn’t it be cool?” Eagerly seeking the same enthusiastic validation in return.

New music coming to SONARA! “I Am” from @david_mayer, @nico_stojan, and @tookermusic.

It started as a bright, spontaneous session and stayed that way. A hypnotic vocal sample sits over springy drums and airy pads. Summer written all the way through it.
