ITALIAN WINE TASTING! Join us under the rafters on Thursday, October 1st, as @LaurenceVuelta of @Sunrise_Wines_NC takes us through the 3 B’s of Italian wine: Barolo, Brunello and Barbaresco (and a little extra), with a traditional Italian “grigliata” available for a donation!
Wine highlight: 2019 Sanlorenzo Brunello di Montalcino DOCG! Podere Sanlorenzo is a small, family-run, certified organic and biodynamic winery located on the southwestern slopes of Montalcino, Tuscany, producing elegant, structured 100% Sangiovese wines. It earned a 93 point rating from Michael Godel!
In the glass: Rosato di Nebbiolo, Barbaresco, Barolo, Brunello di Montalcino, and Barbera.
The five glasses of wine alone would retail for over $62…this will be an epic tasting!
On the plate - a traditional Italian “grigliata!”
Salciccia: Italian pork sausages flavored with fennel, garlic, or red pepper flakes.
Pollo alla Diavola: chicken marinated in olive oil, chili flakes, and lemon.
Fungo Portobello alla Griglia: Portobello mushroom caps stuffed with garlic, parsley, and breadcrumbs, some with parmesan.
Bruschetta: Grilled crusty bread rubbed with raw garlic cloves, drizzled with olive oil, and topped with diced tomatoes and basil.
Verdure Grigliate: Slices of zucchini, eggplant, and bell peppers grilled, dressed with olive oil and balsamic vinegar.
Insalata di pasta: Cold pasta tossed with cherry tomatoes, olives, capers, mozzarella pearls, and tuna (we’ll do one without the tuna as well.)

Intermediate & Advanced Slide Guitar Workshop with @ScottAinslieMusic under the rafters at The Bar(n) at Sonark Farms on Saturday, October 17th, 4 pm to 6:30 pm!
Join Blues guitarist, historian, and storyteller Scott Ainslie who has spent more than fifty years inside the music of the American South – Delta and Piedmont Blues, on this slide guitar workshop, exploring the African roots of American music. Scott plays vintage guitars, a fretless gourd banjo, and homemade diddley bows to perform and preserve traditional American music.
From Scott: "Slide guitar is a study in contrasts: the harder you play, the less sound you get, and the sound you make is defined by the sounds you mute. Solving the problems the present themselves when you lay a slide on the guitar is defined by subtraction more than addition.
In these classes we will begin with slide in standard tuning, working out essential techniques on a single string.
We will mute heavily with both right and left hands. We'll examine the ergonomics of developing some nice vibratos (slow, medium, fast) and talk gear choices and set up.
We will graduate then to various open tunings, making sure we understand how they work, and look at some repertoire in both standard tuning and open tunings, leaning on the masterpieces of Muddy Waters, David ‘Honeyboy’ Edwards, and Robert Johnson."
