Please. Stay. Touch.: Jess Curtis Experiments with GRAVITY closes this weekend at Fort Mason Center. The exhibition spans decades of work by the late Bay Area choreographer and performance artist, presenting his experiments with dance, disability culture, participation, and perception.

Over the next three nights, members of GRAVITY will perform ICE. CAR. RAGE., a reimagining of a 1997 work involving an autonomous car, a block of ice, a cage, and humans moving among and responding to all three. If you’re curious, check it out live at 8:00 p.m.

Congratulations to guest curators Seth Eisen and LisaRuth Elliott for bringing this body of work together. And thank you to @fsmigiel and @marijanekubow of Fort Mason Art for inviting me to design the exhibition graphics and help give visual form to a show with so many layers, histories, and ways in.

My first experience designing a graphic identity for an Anthony McCall exhibition was at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, where standing inside his projected “solid light” works—lines unfolding through fog into walk-through forms—felt like stepping inside a drawing. It was no surprise to learn that McCall trained and worked as a graphic designer for two decades before returning to filmmaking.

Now, three of these works are on view at Fort Mason—quiet, immersive works of light and space. Long a favorite at SFMOMA, they feel especially at home in Gallery 308, where the scale and volume of the space gives the light room to breathe.

Thank you @fsmigiel, @marijanekubow, and Fort Mason Art for bringing me in to work on this crowd pleaser from the Kramlich Art Foundation collection.

There is only one week left to view it, so if you can, get there by March 8. This is a show well worth the trip.

Bright green graphics, joyful resistance, and a whole lot of radical history—Our commons are free is wrapping up its final weekend August 8–9 at Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture, and you don’t want to miss it.

Sonderby Design had the thrill of creating the identity for Fort Mason Art’s debut exhibition in the newly activated Storehouse (just follow the green across campus). Big thanks to @fsmigiel, @marijanekubow, and @benkinmont for bringing me in.

From underground street sheets to richly illustrated broadsides—plus the actual machines they were printed on, including a vintage ditto machine—the identity draws from 17th-century radical print traditions and 1960s counterculture—to help visitors find their way into this rich, rebellious history.

Catch it before it disappears—rare, radical, and not your average art show.

A big shout-out to @fsmigiel , @marijanekubow, and Kota Ezawa for the opportunity to design the visual identity, signage, and promotional materials for Here and There — Now and Then, an exhibition presented in collaboration with SFMOMA that opened last week at Fort Mason Center for Arts & Culture (FMCAC).

Don’t miss Kota Ezawa speaking about his work in Gallery 308 this Friday, 1/24, between 6–8 p.m. during FMCAC’s Winter Art Walk, featuring additional pop-up talks by artists and curators across the campus.

Here and There — Now and Then runs through March 9 in Gallery 308, while Oscar Lopez: Your Food, My Work, Our Land is on view between Buildings B and C through Spring 2025. Graphics by Sonderby Design.

What better way to start 2024 than with a trip to Fort Mason Center for Art & Culture to experience a giant dose of art! Thank you @fsmigiel , @marijanekubow, and @tlzimbardo for the pleasure of designing the identity and exhibition graphics for the “Godmother of Parklets,” Bonnie Ora Sherk: Life Frames since 1970, that recently made it's debut in Gallery 308.

And while you are there, be on the lookout for the colorful, multi-dimensional graphics that point you (up!) to view Cauleen Smith’s Shiny Things for My Quartermaster: Seven Swallowtail Flags waving from the poles atop Building B, Pier 2, and Pier 3—the Festival Pavilion.

Bonnie Ora Sherk: Life Frames since 1970 will be on view through March 10 and Cauleen Smith: Shiny Things for My Quartermaster: Seven Swallowtail Flags will be flying high through Spring 2024. Design by Sonderby.

A big shout out to The TANK Center for Sonic Arts on the successful 2023 launch of their record label, Round Sound, and the release of their debut album, Slow Beethoven. I was honored to have crafted the identity for Round Sound (with a stellar assistant, CCA student and recent grad, Zhaoyan Li) as well as designed its first album cover.

The Tank is an empty seven-story steel cylinder located in Rangely, Colorado that once served as a water treatment facility for steam engine trains. Thanks to a group of passionate musicians and sound enthusiasts, it now offers a non-profit concert stage and a state-of-the art recording studio. Its interior has been described as an acoustic sanctuary whose shape creates an “otherworldly” reverberation that expands not only the sound within it, but one’s mind.

Thank you Executive Director James Paul and its Board for providing this opportunity to support The Tank and its mission. Looking forward to what's ahead in 2024!

Slow Beethoven is available for purchase at https://tanksounds.org
