Baba, I hope I make you proud forever. It was my greatest honour to be your daughter. ❤️

I promise I’ll get that golden retriever you always wanted and he’ll take care of me the way you always did
10/07/62 - forever. by @sondossx_

1 month. 1 month since we said goodbye. 1 month since my whole world stopped spinning. How? I suppose the natural thing to say is that it’s been the worst month of my life but in reality it’s just been a whole month of nothing. Pure numbness. Nothing about your loss feels real. Moments of silence have turned into hours… and hours have turned into days of just nothing. How can this be real?

Dad, for 26 years you took care of me in the way every human deserves to be cared for. You protected me, looked out for me and always treated me like your special little girl. I can’t imagine any other human looking out for me the way you did. You strived to make sure Wasyla and I had the best life we could possible have and sacrificed so much in the process. A young man from a small town in Cairo, Egypt who raised his children in Glasgow, Scotland. I’m so proud of you dad. You did everything right. Thank you for raising me to be the strong-minded person I am today. I wouldn’t be the confident, knowledgable, empathetic person I am without you… and of course a little stubborn.. I am your daughter after all! You raised me well but above all, you raised me to make sure I could take care of myself - and that’s what I’ll have to do now. I’ll be honest, I’m not ready to live a life without you yet ya baba but I know that I can - because that’s how you raised me. And that is something I promise to honour.

The reality is you were more than just my dad, you were my best friend. My friend who I’d text (from upstairs) to go for coffee with.. then we’d debate where to go and argue over who pays. My friend who’d sit through my hour long fashion shows to help me pick an outfit then tell me how to style my hair and what make up to do. My friend who I’d moan to about silly little men and you’d tell me I was better than them all. My friend who took an interest in my eccentric boyband and music obsession, not because you understood but because you knew it made me happy. My friend who loved my friends like they were your own. My friend who text me every day (even though we lived in the same house) to updated me on all things life, or update me on the football score…

06/08/25. 1 year. A year ago today I woke up to find you peacefully sleeping in another little piece of this world. It sounds crazy to say but even in that exact moment I knew it was written, and only right, for me to be the one who found you. It was almost as if for 26 years you had raised me and prepared me for this moment, but more so gave me the strength and the sabr for it. I am who I am today and who I was in that soul destroying moment all because of you dad, and that is something I hope you were proud of.

The days, weeks and months that followed that day were filled with a hollow numbness and deep level of despair I can’t begin to explain. Who knew that feeling nothing was even worse than feeling your emotions.

I wish I could say it’s got easier with time or I’ve began adjusting to a new normal without you but the reality is, time has been anything but a healer and my head and heart have ached for your absence more and more as time has went on. The world is so quiet without you :( and to know that this is forever is an unfathomable type of pain & continuous heartbreak I wish I didn’t have to endure.

This past year has been the hardest of my life. There hasn’t been a single day (minus 1 💔) I haven’t came to visit you whilst home, almost trying to understand how we ended up here. Hours spent yapping in coffee shops has somehow turned into one way conversations at the cemetery filled with silence, because life is so empty there is nothing left for me to say. How did this become our reality? It doesn’t feel real and I’ll be honest… I’m terrified it never does. I drive home night after night and get excited seeing your car on the driveway, expecting to look through the window and see you sitting on the couch with your cup of tea in hand… then reality hits and my heart shatters. I go to text you silly football updates, send you pictures of me and my friends getting up to our usual crazy antics, laugh with you about me running late for every single life event or try justify booking another random spontaneous flight… then I remember, I can’t share any of those moments with you anymore, and that hurts. This was never supposed to be our story.
