Amazing how she sculptures every note with her hands šŸ˜

Somebody That I Used to Know by Gotye featuring Kimbra is a haunting breakup song about the emotional distance that can turn two people who once loved each other into complete strangers.

Released in 2011 on Gotye’s album Making Mirrors, the song presents both sides of a failed relationship. Gotye’s verse carries feelings of hurt, confusion, and resentment as he struggles with how completely his former partner has cut him off. Kimbra’s response changes the perspective, suggesting that the relationship was painful for her too and that his version of what happened isn’t the whole story.

That back-and-forth is what makes the song so powerful: neither person is portrayed as entirely right or wrong. It captures the strange reality of remembering someone intimately while realizing they’re now simply ā€œsomebody that you used to know.ā€ by @songstuesday

Nothing gives you dopamine quite like this

Released on September 22, 2011, ā€œWe Found Loveā€ brought Rihanna and Calvin Harris together for one of the biggest dance-pop crossovers of the decade.

The track spent 10 non-consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming Rihanna’s longest-running U.S. No. 1 and Calvin Harris’ first.

Fifteen years later, its euphoric production and unforgettable chorus still sound like the early 2010s at their peak. by @songstuesday

She literally doesn’t age like at all šŸ˜

Most artists spend their careers hoping for recognition from their idols.

Rihanna got it before she turned 20.

When she recorded ā€œDon’t Stop the Musicā€ for her Good Girl Gone Bad era, the song featured the iconic ā€œmama-say, mama-sa, ma-ma-koo-saā€ chant from Michael Jackson’s ā€œWanna Be Startin’ Somethin’.ā€ Instead of sampling it without permission, Rihanna’s team reached out to Michael himself. He personally approved the use, making him an official songwriter on the track. For a teenage artist still early in her career, getting the King of Pop’s blessing was a defining moment.

The story didn’t end there, though. The famous chant actually originated from Cameroonian legend Manu Dibango and his 1972 classic ā€œSoul Makossa.ā€ Years after Rihanna’s release, Dibango filed legal action, arguing the phrase was his creation. That single melody ended up linking three generations of music history—from 1972 to Michael Jackson in 1983 and Rihanna in 2007.

Meanwhile, ā€œDon’t Stop the Musicā€ became one of the biggest dance-pop records of the 2000s, topping charts around the world and becoming one of Rihanna’s signature hits.

At just 19 years old, Rihanna wasn’t just making chart-toppers...

She was earning the respect of music royalty. by @songstuesday

2016 was such a blessed year for music šŸ˜

You couldn’t escape this song in 2016
ā€œCloserā€ spent 12 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the longest-running No. 1 single of 2016.

The Chainsmokers and Halsey turned a messy reunion between two exes into one of the defining pop-EDM records of the decade.

Nearly every detail, from the Blink-182 reference to the stolen mattress, helped make it feel inseparable from the era.

Backup singer killing it so badly too šŸ˜

ā€œThat’s better than I will ever sound.ā€ P!nk said it while watching a stranger sing What About Us back to her. Then she asked who this was. Then she asked whether this girl was already an established artist. She wasn’t. She was a 21-year-old from Nieuwerkerk aan den IJssel with a microphone her parents bought her for her 18th birthday.

Michelle Hoogendoorn auditioned for Idols in the Netherlands in 2016. She didn’t win. She had wanted this since she was four years old, when she secretly decided she would be the next Britney Spears and never told anyone. After Idols, she started a YouTube channel under the name Davina Michelle and uploaded a new cover every single week. On August 21 2017 she uploaded What About Us.

Glamour sat P!nk down to watch covers of her songs. This was the one that stopped her. P!nk said she finally knew how the song was supposed to sound. The video reached 13 million views on YouTube and 25 million on Facebook. Within a year Davina was on prime-time Dutch television. Her version of Duurt Te Lang hit No. 1 in the Netherlands and stayed there for eleven weeks, the longest-running No. 1 ever by a female solo artist in the Dutch charts.

Then P!nk asked her to open her Beautiful Trauma show at the Malieveld in The Hague in 2019. The girl who didn’t win Idols ended up on the stage right before the woman whose song changed her life.

She still sings What About Us at her own concerts. It’s where everything started. Let us know your thoughts below! by @songstuesday

One of the greatest of all time šŸ˜

ā€œBring Me to Lifeā€ by Evanescence is one of the most iconic alternative rock songs of the 2000s, released in 2003 as part of their debut album Fallen. Blending gothic rock, nu metal, and symphonic elements, the track creates a dark, dramatic atmosphere that became a defining sound of its era.

The production is built around haunting piano melodies, distorted guitars, powerful drums, and sweeping electronic textures that constantly build tension. Amy Lee delivers a stunning vocal performance, moving from delicate vulnerability to soaring, emotionally charged highs. The contrast between her ethereal voice and the heavier instrumentation gives the song its unmistakable intensity, while Paul McCoy adds a gritty rap-rock edge that makes the chorus even more explosive.

Lyrically, ā€œBring Me to Lifeā€ explores emotional awakening, isolation, and the feeling of being brought back from a state of numbness. Its desperate questions and dramatic imagery capture the need for someone or something to break through emotional darkness and make you feel alive again.

What makes the track truly unforgettable is its combination of gothic atmosphere, powerful vocals, and explosive rock production. Its appearance on the Daredevil soundtrack helped introduce it to an enormous audience, turning it into a worldwide hit and one of the defining rock anthems of the early 2000s. by @songstuesday

Christina knows her vocals and absolutely crushes it šŸ˜

Sabrina Carpenter said — ā€œI think the first time I ever heard your voice was when my mom played me a video of you singing at eight years old. That was the most inspiring thing for me ever to see as a young girl that wanted to sing but just didn’t think I could do it at that age. That was the main reason that I started singing and that I wanted to become a singer. So I’m just so grateful.ā€

Then Christina Aguilera brought her out to perform What A Girl Wants together. The woman who made Sabrina Carpenter want to sing performed her most iconic song with the woman she inspired. Twenty five years apart. The same song. The most complete possible full circle in pop music.

What A Girl Wants was released in 1999 as the lead single from Christina Aguilera’s self-titled debut album — the album that won her the Grammy Award for Best New Artist in 2000. It topped the Billboard Hot 100 for three weeks. It is the song that introduced the world to a voice that would go on to influence an entire generation of female pop artists.

Including Sabrina Carpenter. Who said so herself. Then performed it with her. At the Spotify Music Studios in Los Angeles. On the 25th anniversary of the song that started everything.

Sabrina Carpenter said Christina Aguilera’s voice was the reason she became a singer. Then they performed What A Girl Wants together. The inspiration and the inspired — on the same stage — singing the same song. Twenty five years after the world first heard it. Let us know your thoughts below! by @songstuesday

Mind-blowingly good even in 2026 šŸ˜

ā€œMy Heart Will Go Onā€ became timeless — but Céline Dion almost didn’t record it
It’s almost impossible to imagine Titanic without Céline Dion’s ā€œMy Heart Will Go On,ā€ but Céline initially wasn’t keen on recording the song. Her husband and manager René Angélil persuaded her to record a demo, and that vocal ultimately helped create one of the most recognizable movie songs ever made.

Released in 1997, the song became a worldwide No. 1, won four Grammys and an Academy Award, and became permanently connected to Titanic. Nearly three decades later, those opening notes are instantly recognizable—proof that sometimes an artist’s most timeless song can be the one they nearly turned down. by @songstuesday

A timeless classic. This song is everything šŸ˜

Released in 2008, In And Out Of Love became one of the defining vocal trance songs of its era. It brought together Armin van Buuren and Sharon den Adel.

The track was part of Armin van Buurens album Imagine and was later released as a single. Sharons powerful vocals became one of the most recognizable parts of the song.

More than 15 years later, the combination of the melody and vocals still feels special. It remains one of those trance classics that can instantly bring back the feeling of an earlier era of dance music.

In And Out Of Love is a reminder of how powerful a great vocal and a great trance melody can be when they come together. by @songstuesday

Alicia hasn’t aged a bit šŸ˜®šŸ˜

Alicia Keys brought ā€œFallinā€™ā€ back to the American Idol 2026 finale for the 25th anniversary celebration of Songs in A Minor, and RAYE joined her for a beautifully stripped-back piano performance. Their voices fit together so naturally, with RAYE adding her own character while still giving Alicia’s original the space it deserves.

There’s something really special about watching an artist who grew up admiring a song now standing beside the woman who created it. A classic staying a classic, while still finding a new voice. 🫶

Two legends reunited šŸ™ šŸ•Šļø

Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton performing ā€œWe’ve Got Tonightā€ during their 1985 Real Love tour.

Bob Seger originally wrote and recorded the song in 1978, and Kenny later recorded it as a duet with Sheena Easton in 1983. During his tour with Dolly, she would join him on stage and sing Sheena’s part.

And, of course, Dolly couldn’t resist cracking a little joke, changing the lyric ā€œWho needs tomorrow?ā€ to ā€œWho needs Sheena Easton?ā€

She had gorgeous legss šŸ˜

Tina Turner, born Anna Mae Bullock, met Ike Turner in the late 1950s and soon formed the duo Ike & Tina Turner. They married in 1962 in Tijuana.

For nearly 16 years, Ike subjected her to constant physical, emotional, and financial abuse: he beat her with a shoe stretcher, threw boiling coffee at her causing third-degree burns, broke her jaw, and used her nose as a punching bag until she bled. He controlled all the money, the songs, and her career, while having mistresses and abusing cocaine. In 1968, Tina attempted suicide.

On July 1, 1976, after a brutal beating on the way to a hotel in Dallas where they were supposed to perform, Tina escaped when Ike fell asleep. She only had 36 cents and a Mobil credit card. She hid, and on July 27 she filed for divorce citing ā€œirreconcilable differences.ā€
The divorce was finalized on March 29, 1978. Tina gave up almost everything: properties, recording studio, rights, and money. She only kept her stage name and two cars. She was left with no resources, lived on food stamps, and faced threats, but she regained her freedom. From there, she rebuilt her life and her solo career. by @songstuesday
