My 80th visited country— the one I had the opportunity to visit while attending #UNCCDCOP17 in Ulaanbaatar (called UB by locals).

A few fun facts about this Mongolia:

🐎 More horses than people. An old Mongolian saying goes: "A Mongol without a horse is like a bird without wings."

🥶 Home to the world's coldest capital. Ulaanbaatar experiences long, harsh winters and holds the title of the coldest national capital.

🌍 The world's most sparsely populated independent country. With only about 2 people per square kilometre, Mongolia offers an incredible sense of space.

☀️ The Land of the Eternal Blue Sky. With more than 250 sunny days each year, blue skies are one of the country's defining features.

⚔️ Birthplace of the Mongol Empire. Founded by Genghis Khan in 1206, it became the largest contiguous land empire in human history.

🛖 The ger — wrongly called a “yurt”. Mongolia’s traditional circular home is properly called a ger. A ger can be assembled in about 30 minutes, making it perfectly adapted to the country’s nomadic way of life.

🇲🇳 Mongolia was a meaningful host for Land COP17. Nearly 77% of the country's land is affected by desertification and land degradation, bringing the conference discussions into sharp focus. by @sonia_borrini

Elle est alors connue sous le titre de Majda (الماجدة soit « Vénérable ») #tunisie taken in Port de prince - مرسى الأمراء by @sonia_borrini

The Hassan II Mosque or Grande Mosquée Hassan II (colloquially the "Casablanca Hajj") is the largest #mosque in #Africa, and the 5th largest in the world. Its #minaret is the world's tallest minaret at 210 metres.
The building was commissioned by King Hassan II to be the most ambitious structure ever built in Morocco. Completed in 1993, it was designed by Michel Pinseau and built by Bouygues. The mosque has capacity to accommodate 25,000 devotees for prayers in the main hall and another 80,000 in the plaza squares around it.
The building dimensions are 200 metres in length and 100 metres in width.
All of the granite, plaster, #marble, wood and other materials used in the construction, were extracted from around #Morocco, with the exception of some #Italian white granite columns and 56 glass chandeliers. Six thousand traditional Moroccan artisans worked for five years to create the abundant and beautiful mosaics, stone and marble floors and columns, sculpted plaster moldings, and carved and painted wood ceilings. The construction work involved engagement of 35,000 workers and working of over 50 million hours.
Construction costs, estimated to be about 585 million euro, were an issue of debate in Morocco, a lower mid-income country. While Hassan wished to build a mosque which would be second in size only to the mosque at Mecca, the government lacked funds for such a grand project. Much of the financing was by public subscription. taken in Casablanca, Morocco by @sonia_borrini
