Happy Sunday ❤️ by @soniajaay

Hi there!

Receiving an admission letter should be a moment of celebration. But for many families, it also comes with a difficult question: How will we pay for it?

If you’ve recently gained admission to a federal or state university in Nigeria for an undergraduate program and are facing financial challenges, I understand because I’ve lived that reality myself.

I remember staying at home for a month after resumption while my parents tried to raise the money for my school fees. My dad eventually had to sell his land to meet the payment deadline. I was not sure what was going through his mind at that moment, but I knew one thing: he wanted the best for us, and he was willing to make sacrifices to give us that opportunity. Looking back, I doubt my father ever imagined that sacrifice would one day lead to his daughter receiving a fully funded scholarship to the University of Oxford @oxford_uni.

As I begin my MBA at @oxfordsbs , I can’t think of a better way to pay it forward than to support another student who has gained admission to university but is worried about how to fund their education.

Through my nonprofit group, @awareness_africa , I’m starting a small scholarship initiative to support one Nigerian student who has recently gained admission to a federal or state university in Nigeria and is struggling to raise money for tuition and compulsory registration fees.

If this sounds like you, please apply using the link below. I’m starting with one student this year. As my capacity grows, I hope to support more students across Nigeria and, eventually, more young Africans through university.

If you know someone who may benefit from this opportunity, please share this post with them. And if you’d like to partner with me to sponsor another student, I’d be more than happy to have a conversation.

Application deadline: 31 October 2026.

Thank you, Sonia, for not giving up.

I wrote this letter after I had finished crying over failing the GRE exam in 2023.

It sounds cool now, but there was a girl who had no idea what the future held. All she could do was keep pushing.

This is a reminder to keep going, even when life gets difficult. ❤️ by @soniajaay

Happy Independence Day Nigeria🇳🇬🇳🇬🇳🇬 by @soniajaay

Yesterday was AfOX(Africa Oxford) Orientation Day, and I can’t tell you how exciting it was to learn about Africa through the stories of scholars from different countries.

I now know the symbols on the Eritrean flag and what each colour represents! 🇪🇷

One of the beautiful things about Africa is our shared belief in community. You know the saying, “It takes a village to raise a child”? That idea is part of our DNA as Africans.

I’m incredibly grateful to be a Mastercard Foundation Scholar. I’m grateful for the opportunity to study at Oxford, but even more so, for the belief placed in my future and the future of Africa.

Thank you @africa_oxford for bringing us together. ❤️

Happy Sunday ❤️❤️❤️ by @soniajaay

There’s no better way to say we had a good time on Saturday. Everyone came with positive energy, and we had a swell time. Most of the women met for the first time, yet they bonded like they had been friends for ages.

My heart is full. ❤️

My goal is to create a community of thriving women within the running community. Our subsequent breakfast runs will include conversations around our short-term goals and how we intend to achieve them. We will grow as a community and, more importantly, as individuals.

We will support one another, not just audio support, but the way @precyn__ and faramade showed up for @ebube.runs on Sunday. ❤️

@esetaga_ Thank you for working with me on this project. Thank you for your time. I do not take it for granted at all.

To the beautiful women who showed up on Saturday, how was your experience? And when should we do this again? 💕

Yours Truly,
SoniaJay. by @soniajaay
