Pureza is an exhibition that revisits and expands a photographic series that began with an image taken in Mexico during a visit to my parents’ hometown—an image that lingered with me and was later reimagined as a backdrop within the work.

The series unfolds through an ongoing exploration of my intimate and layered relationship with hair—specifically long brown hair—as both a personal and cultural marker.

Created in collaboration with @artedemarcela , whose garments are featured throughout, the work brings together image and design as intertwined forms of storytelling. Select pieces from her practice will be exhibited alongside the photographs, extending the dialogue between material, identity, and origin.
stop by if you’re free:)

Saturday April 25th 6-10pm

Location: 1201 South Ervay Street, Dallas, Tx 75215. Boedecker Buliding right next to the Cedars Union Studios.

Spotlight: Video Art Night in Dallas artist Fabian Guerrero & Christopher Sonny Martinez 📷

Fabián Guerrero is a queer, first-generation Mexican American born in Dallas. He works with film and photography to document and create images that reflect on pasts, presents, and possible futures of our generation, shedding light on his family’s history and the meanders of the brown and queer communities.

Christopher Sonny Martinez is an artist, educator, and community organizer whose practice is rooted in the historical foundations of photography and film, using images to amplify marginalized voices and foster deep communal connections. His work centers on intimate portraits of my Mexican-American family, my chosen queer family, and historically underrepresented communities.

Together at VAN Dallas, they present ‘Tierra Frontera,’ a video work serving as a visual manifesto for the Rio Grande Valley, reclaiming a region often eclipsed by the singular narrative of a “border town.” At its heart, the project centers the Mexican-American and Latino experience, celebrating a culture that thrives despite the heated political tensions and militarization that define the border today.

That’s the final of our Video Art Night in Dallas spotlights! There’ll be more updates and sneak peaks right here ahead of the big event on April 17. Stay tuned!
