I built @mezzileroy from the ground up. I started this brand in Lagos,Nigeria 🇳🇬 and made it a multi-million naira business. Some chapters test you more than they teach you. For the past two years, people have asked, “Do you guys still make shoes?” The truth is, not only did we lose our most effective craftsman to the cold hands of death, we also lost our production space. All of this happened within the space of three weeks in December 2023, a period that is usually the peak season for any business. I had to reinvent the wheel while dealing with the legal battles that followed. That season forced us to pause shoe production and shift our focus to the clothing arm of the brand, while I worked quietly behind the scenes to get our cobblers back to work. Safe to say we have weathered that storm and we look forward to consistently sharing our new footwear designs with you all. Thank you all for keeping us in business over the years. Designing our next drop…..A leather jacket inspired by the heroics of the Nigerian contingent at the Atlanta 96 Olympics in America. From Chioma Ajunwa who was largely unknown, battled injuries that almost ended her career, knocked on doors that were always closed in her face. A journey so turbulent that many would have walked away. She rose to win Gold at the long jump event, becoming not just the first Nigerian but also first black African woman to win Olympic gold in a field event. To the Dream Team, a group of footballers making a name for themselves with nothing but dreams literally. Beating the star studded Brazilian team in the Semi-Final in the most dramatic fashion, coming from 3-1 behind to win 4-3. The match still being studied and rewatched as a masterpiece of resilience and belief. To the final, coming from behind twice to beat an Argentine side led by the great Hernan Crespo. Thus becoming the first African team to win Olympic gold medal in football. This jacket is inspired by that spirit. The spirit that rises when counted out. The spirit that births diamonds from pressure. The spirit that never accepts defeat. That is the DNA stitched into this piece. Courage. Persistence. Can-do.
