Since the discovery of the Metta Catharina shipwreck, Russian calf has gained cult status. Laying untouched at the bottom of Plymouth Sound since the 18th Century, the Metta Catherina revealed the most beautiful Russian calf hides in its hold. Grained with a cross hatched grain and richly aromatic, the leather was named ‘Russian’ calf as the ship was on its way from St. Petersburg to Genoa.

J&FJ Baker have taken on the challenge to replicate this beautiful historic leather, to the joy of many shoe enthusiasts. Offer valid for any pair of custom made shoes through Oct. Tenth shoemaker. by @sonsofhenrey

Produced by England-based tannery CF Stead, waxed suede has a character all of its own. A tight fiber structure and traditional, rich dyeings produce a wonderful combination of natural texture and colour.

Over time, the wax present in the leather will dissipate and become lighter in those areas.

Fully waterproof and requiring low maintenance, it is an ideal leather for autumn and winter.

A unique pair of Oct. Tenth Full Brogue Wingtip Oxford shoes in a green suede patina, made on the new K-last.

I remember a long time ago when this particular model was all the rage in plain boxcalf leather. Today, customers tend to dress more casual which explains the suede patina. It is a perfect example of a crossover shoe between formal and casual. by @sonsofhenrey
