She Can Handle Anything – A Women’s Day Story

Last year was the toughest year of my life. After my surgery, I was mentally down and completely unproductive. I, who always took pride in hearing My parents say, “Don’t worry, she will handle it,” suddenly felt incapable of handling even a single opportunity.

I was happy when Nikhilettan (my husband) used to say, “She is there, she is my pillar and the energy that drives me toward my dream.” I was happy when my Calicut mom and dad trusted my choices, even for the simplest things, believing I was capable of making the right decisions for them. I felt a deep sense of belonging when my event clients told me, “You are not an outsider; you are part of us, part of our event family.” I felt proud when my director and team appreciated my effort in every scene, saying my dedication and commitment stood out.

But last year, I couldn’t live up to any of these expectations.

Weight gain after surgery was natural, and I wasn’t bothered about it. But when people started asking, “What happened to you?” “Are you pregnant?” “Was it cancer?” “An abortion?” “You’ve lost your charm…” it made me question myself.

I lost seven television projects as a heroine—all rejected because I had gained weight. I started doubting my confidence, my skills, my worth. Depression took over. I withdrew from everything, even social media. Many of you reached out, and I’m truly grateful for that. But I felt lost. I wanted to quit. I wanted to escape.

Then one day, I watched my old projects. I saw her—the girl who loved what she did, the girl who believed she could handle anything. And I knew I had to find her again.

So, I started from where I was. I chose to love my body while working towards the shape I wanted. I chose to dream again. To fight again. To believe again.

Because that’s what being a woman is all about. We break down, but we rise. We lose ourselves, but we find our way back—stronger, wiser, and braver than before. This Women’s Day, I celebrate every woman who has felt lost and found herself again.

Because she can handle anything. And I can too.
