Soof صوف means wool ~and it’s the name this atelier was always meant to carry.
Formerly Maison Aramé, now Soof Atelier. We’re growing by becoming more radical and softer at once ~~~~~~untangling the knots that got tied up in speed, trend, and noise, so what’s left is closer to the thread itself.

Heritage and nature come first here. Not a corporation to work inside of, but a partnership to work within, with the loom, the wool, the hands that know it. Every piece is still hand-woven in undyed wool by Fathi Hayek in Kairouan. Nothing about the making has changed, only the name finally matches what it’s always protected.

🕊️We aspire to offer a sanctuary of minimalistic elegance and a fusion of East and West, where identities are fluid and floating in the liminal space between.

Gather around, folks, and let me spin you a tale as old as time—a story of resilience, revival, and the transformation of tradition in the face of modernity 🌒

In the ancient city of Kairouan, where echoes of history linger in the air, there existed a fabric known as Hayek— destined to adorn women’s shoulders as they ventured out into the world. This climate-smart and inherently sheer and fluid fabric has been woven into the very fabric of Tunisian culture for generations —a symbol of sisterhood, resilience, and a testament to Kairouan’s rich heritage of arts and crafts. But as the world moved forward, the relentless march of machinery and fast fashion threatened to swallow Hayek whole.

In 2020, our founder, Ikram Lakhdhar, set out on a mission to reclaim this dying heritage of her beloved hometown. Filled with determination, hope, and a deep respect for tradition, she sought out artisans who still held the craft close to their hearts. But the path was fraught with challenges—struggles to find ethically sourced wool, battles against the tide of mass production, and the looming specter of pollution and environmental degradation.

And so, in the midst of this adventure, Ikram made a vow—to not only revive the Hayek fabric but to do so in a way that would heal the wounds inflicted by decades of harmful and colonial factory production and pollution. Enter slow and natural wool threads weaving practice—a revolutionary approach to garment-making that seeks to de-carbonize and green the very fabric of the fashion industry. By embracing sustainable practices and prioritizing the well-being of both our artisans and our planet, we can undo the damage wrought by years of neglect and greed. 🐢💚

Now, as we unveil our inaugural collection, we do so not just as guardians of heritage, but as stewards of green change for a better future. Join us, friends, as we breathe new life into the legacy of Hayek—a journey of honor, passion, and purpose. 🐑🌿
