🍌Chamomile & Banana Calming Lick Mat🍌

A simple enrichment recipe for noisy evenings!

Firework Night can be a difficult evening for many dogs, so having a few calming dog enrichment ideas ready can help keep them occupied while the bangs are happening outside!🥰🙌

This Banana & Chamomile Lick Mat combines mashed banana, oats and a small amount of cooled chamomile tea to create a soft, spreadable dog treat. Licking and foraging activities can help give dogs something positive to focus on, making this easy vegan dog enrichment recipe a lovely addition to your Firework Night routine.

Ingredients
🍌 1 ripe banana
🍌 ¼ cup rolled oats
🍌 2–3 tbsp weak, cooled plain chamomile tea
🍌 1 tbsp unsweetened applesauce
Use plain chamomile tea only, with no caffeine, sweeteners, flavourings or additional herbs.

Method
🍌 Make a weak cup of plain chamomile tea and allow it to cool completely.
🍌 Mash the banana thoroughly in a bowl.
🍌 Stir in the applesauce.
🍌 Add the rolled oats.
🍌 Add 2 tablespoons of cooled chamomile tea and mix.
🍌 Add a little more tea if needed until you have a thick, spreadable consistency.
🍌 Spread a thin layer over your dog’s lick mat.
🍌 Serve immediately, or place in the freezer for 30–60 minutes for a longer-lasting enrichment activity.

Always supervise your dog while using a lick mat.

This homemade Firework Night dog treat is less about creating a magical calming ingredient and more about giving your dog something enjoyable and familiar to focus on. Pair it with their usual safe space, curtains closed and whatever Firework Night routine works best for them!

A note from our Soopa Nutritionist: Suitable for all healthy dogs over 3 months old. Replace oats and oat flour with wholemeal or spelt flour to make it more suitable for diabetic dogs. Not sutiable for dogs with CKD stage 3-4. These pups could replace the banana with extra apple sauce!🥰🍂🍌🙌

Not every cosy autumn food makes a safe snack for your dog!🍂🐶

Autumn is full of warming dinners, sweet treats and delicious leftovers, but some of our seasonal favourites should stay completely off your dog’s menu!🚫

Keep your pup away from:

🍞 Stuffing containing onion, garlic or leeks
🥣 Gravy containing onion, garlic or lots of salt
🍫 Chocolate and cocoa
🍇 Grapes, raisins, sultanas and currants
🥜 Nuts, especially macadamia nuts
🦴 Cooked bones

This post isn’t here to scare anyone.💚 It’s simply to raise awareness of a few tempting autumn foods that are best kept safely out of paws’ reach, no matter how convincing those puppy eyes might be!🥹🐶

✨ RECIPE OF THE WEEK!✨
🍎Apple Picking Mini Dog Cakes🍎

Bring apple-picking season into your kitchen with these healthy Apple Mini Dog Cakes. Fresh apple gives each little cake natural sweetness and fibre, while oat flour creates a soft texture without dairy or eggs.

There’s no added sugar, artificial flavouring or sweetener, making these 100% vegan dog cakes a fun homemade treat for an autumn birthday, gotcha day or simply because your dog deserves to join in with cosy baking season!🍂🙌

Ingredients
🧡 1 medium apple, peeled, cored and finely grated
🧡 1 cup oat flour
🧡 ½ cup rolled oats
🧡 ½ cup unsweetened applesauce
🧡 1 tbsp ground flaxseed
🧡 3 tbsp water
🧡 ½ tsp Ceylon cinnamon

Method
🧡 Preheat oven to 175°C / 155°C fan.
🧡 Combine flaxseed with the water and leave for 5–10 minutes until slightly thickened.
🧡 Add grated apple and applesauce.
🧡 Fold in the oat flour, oats and cinnamon.
🧡 Divide between a lightly greased mini muffin tin.
🧡 Smooth the tops with a spoon.
🧡 Bake for 18–22 minutes, until firm.
🧡 Allow to cool in the tin before transferring to a cooling rack.

Serve them plain or add a tiny spoonful of unsweetened plant-based yoghurt and some Soopa Healthy Bites for a special occasion!🧡🙌🍂

These soft homemade apple dog treats are particularly lovely for dogs who aren’t as keen on hard biscuits. Keep refrigerated and treat them as an occasional extra alongside your dog’s normal balanced diet.
