Soo Petite House is my little place, where a neighbor’s cat comes by to nap on my patio.

Soo Petite House in Village Green

The manuscript of Not My Cat was finished in winter, then slept in a drawer all spring.
Now it’s summer — time to open the door.
Because a cat that’s not mine wants to be outside.
Serialized every Tuesday and Friday. Link in bio.

4 years ago.

4AM Rejection in Los Angeles

Ting, ting, ting.
Alarm from my work email at 4am.
Scrolling down under the blue light,
Well, this is the email that I’ve been waiting for two months.
“Sorry to let you know blah blah blah,
But we think the readers this day and age
Buy books for the life they admire.”
Which means my life is not something interesting.
A peaceful single life with a cat that I don’t own.
A cat named Solo.
Then it ends with
“Wish you good luck to find a publisher with courage.”
So I woke up in the middle of dawn,
Making my own coffee in the dark,
Sipping the thought about my life
That readers won’t aspire to be.
And do they even know about my life.
I look up at the sky and spot the north star,
Shine, shine, shine.
The sky is getting lighter and lighter,
Grey starts to become light blue.
And not my cat, the origin of all this hustle,
The subject matter of my book,
Comes to my patio as always.
Hey Solo, people don’t think our story is going to be popular.
“Meow.”
“Who said that? Who was the asshole?” Actually, it was bitches.
We need courage to do so.
She makes her ears sideways. I know, I’m upset too.
Maybe we have to be our own north star.
That the readers are going to look up. by @soopetitehouse

We're eating dinner when you say, “All women want an elephant.”
I ponder, All women? All? If I don’t want one, your statement is already broken.
But I keep eating, eating red meat.
Fork, knife, fork. Protein and iron in the body.
Then an elephant enters the room. Not the elephant in the room. The elephant between us.
Large, quiet, breathing. Wearing your certainty like a naked king. And I wonder - Do you think I want one too?
Fork, knife, fork. Protein and iron in the body.
People don’t really know what other people want.
“All women want an elephant” is just another way to say you want an elephant. by @soopetitehouse
