‘Tis the season to be a little more playful. To enjoy the thrill and tingle of being spooked. To try on different versions of yourself. 👻 In yoga philosophy, avidya — not seeing clearly — can keep us identified with the roles, labels, and stories we’ve collected about ourselves. We start believing that who we are is the same as who we’ve learned to be. So loosen your grip on all of that. Embrace the beginner’s mind. Get curious. Instead of striving for perfection, explore what truly makes you feel… like you. Wobble. Giggle.Try the weird variation. Let go of how it’s supposed to look and enjoy the exploration. Maybe the practice this week is simply giving yourself permission to play! Come and scare yourself here! The autumn equinox is tomorrow—so, apparently, fall? Even if it’s still on the warm side here, there is a perceptible shift. A little reminder that we’re always moving between things. More light, less light.
Beginning, ending.
Holding on, letting go.
Finding our balance somewhere in the middle. I always like this time of year as an invitation to take stock. What’s working? What feels a little off? What are we ready to shift, and what do we want to carry forward? And to work all of that out, there’s yoga. Your mat beckons! These postures can seem intimidating, but that’s why connecting to them feels so good. Part of learning to do these poses is trusting yourself and embracing that edge. In this workshop, we will help you find that point of lift-off and balance through safe and playful collaboration. We’ll build strength, focusing on the arms as our foundation, the core as the stabilizer, and use flexibility to deepen into the poses. This will be the passageway to explore an array of arm balance and inversion variations. We’ll break down the more intricate asanas and work with partners and props for safety and fun. This is a prime opportunity to receive focused assistance that you may not get in a typical class. We’re here to help you kick your feet up for a while and lose the fear of the unknown! by @soozasana

Once again, we left Lefkada, and once again, my heart hurt to say farewell. This was an action-packed retreat. Some of the action was planned, some was not, but it all served its purpose: to help us bask, luxuriate, flow, sit in stillness, grow, learn, and observe ourselves and our samskaras. Retreats can look glossy and glowy from the outside—and there are certainly lots of those bits—but they’re about so much more than a beautiful vacation. Changing your backdrop and temporarily removing your usual labels and roles can shake up ingrained responses, unstick some neural grooves, and make space for something new. It helps when the backdrop is so heavenly! I relished my sunrise walks to the shala to practice and prep before the yogis arrived . And arrive they would, a little more each day, to the gifts of this particular time and place. Mind blowing views, Mama’s extraordinary meals, her wisdom, her words that you lean in to learn from. Beaches, hikes, boat rides, olive oil, wine, laughter, quietude, sweat, and that ridiculously blue Greek water. And then, somewhere along the way, you see the shift in the practice. They try new things. They share observations. Their countenance changes. That’s my favorite part. It’s what you hope they carry home with them. As the week wound down, I kept coming back to the idea of the odyssey. With Ithaca sitting right in front of us, it was hard not to. The Greek word nostos means “homecoming,” but it’s as much about the journey as the destination—how we navigate what happens along the way and who we are when we finally return home. Perhaps with more awareness and a truer sense of self. I remain ever so grateful and in deep awe of this transformative place. Until we next come home to you, Lefkada❤️ Special thank you to everyone for their photos and videos, to @logan.zawacki for creating and collecting a lot of that content, and to @vic.ronga for the unbelievable drone footage! by @soozasana
