this has been a good month

I had to scroll down the app to find that playlist
the one that filled the silence of the nights
when I missed you

I don’t miss you today
in fact, most days
I forget to think of you
I was so scared of a day like today
when I would have to scrape my mind
just to miss you

but today I am neither scared nor sad
and I listen to these songs gratefully
not for you
but for the massive weight
of breathing afraid
until the fear is a little hollow pocket

in my heaven,
overflow is not a word
for there is no under
no less
no nothing
abundance simply is

you are there,
your mouth wide open
your song an endless loop of
I love you
there is no need for forgiveness
or a lowered gaze
our eyes meet
forever there

my mother is with me
and her mother is with her
and I am with them
and we turn the faucet together

we do not forget each others names
we do not forget each others stories
we do not bleed
and when we cry,
our bodies shake with the new heaven
in rumbles of gratitude like a choir

my first post in a long time - here are some snippets of life in 2023. This was a very hard year & also a very beautiful one. I love you. I love love. Here’s to 2024.

birdsong past midnight
it’s too late
the day escaped
unscathed
by the dove
of our words

and on repeat,
our last words ring
like bells
across the outlines
of our past loves
and our future losses:

everything is alive
and every truth that holds a lie
can be untold.
the honest answer to
all my questions is
twofold;
