I’m very excited that the Henri Cartier-Bresson Foundation has chosen Obras as the photobook of the month! Thank you @fondationhcb 🙏🙏🙏. #Repost @clement_cheroux
Photobook of the month: a new initiative of the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson.
At the Foundation we believe in the essential role of the photobook. Today, the #photobook offers a degree of creativness never achieved before in the entire history of photography. This is the reason why it seems so important for us through the @fondationhcb photobook of the month, to highlight a recently published work that has particularly marked us.
We are glad to announce that our first photobook of the month is :

✨ Obras by Sophie Barbasch

In this book, American photographer @sophiebarbasch shares the experience of her journey along a railway under construction in Northeast Brazil. Published by the @penumbrafoundation the book is a beautiful, mysterious and timeless object.

➡️ You can find the book at the bookstore of the Fondation Henri Cartier-Bresson.

I’m excited to announce my two-person exhibition with @marionwilsonart! Marion and I met while teaching at Sarah Lawrence College, so it is extra special to be able to share this work at @thegalleryatheimbold @slcvasa.

For over a year, we have been trading images back and forth, collaborating in a visual conversation while each developing new bodies of work. I really admire her paintings and have learned so much from her.

Big thank you to Karina Eckmeier @karinaanneck for designing the catalog, Gerard Franciosa @myowncolorlab for making the prints, and Mark Alice Durant @saint_lucy_books for the beautiful essay.———. Opening: Tuesday, January 27th, 5 - 7pm
On view through March 1st
Weekdays 10am - 4pm

Four copies of Sophie Barbasch’s book, “Obras”, have just been added to our online store. This monograph comprises 36 photographs taken along the route of the Transnordestina, a railroad under construction in the Northeadt of Brazil that ties the desert to the sea.

•••

“Obras” revolves around the notion of suspension, meaning they grapple with the question of what it means to belong in a place, and whether we can actually ever know anything simply by looking.

•••

Signed by the artist, purchase “Obras” and receive an 8” x 10” silver gelatin print for $150! Shop through the link in our bio. by @sophiebarbasch
