"Baby Bird"

Just finishing up before the rain poured down.
Inspired particularly by Inuit art traditions of showing the mutability of life, as one creature morphs into another. It was fitting I was working whilelistening to "Every living thing, the great and deadly race to know all life". I don't think Linnaeus, the 18th century botanist responsible for a very fixed perspective of classification and nature, would have approved. Much of his work has now been picked apart, but he did have one habbit I find weirdly endearing, he often wrote anonymous rave reviews of his own work. by @sophiewoodrow

A serene corner of our current show Not Just Me, featuring six contemplative and ethereal works by @sophiewoodrow

Sophie Woodrow studied studio ceramics at Falmouth University graduating in 2001, and later at Cardiff University. Since then her distinctive porcelain figures have featured in both ceramic and fine art exhibitions in galleries and museums in across the UK and Europe. Her work is held in collections at the national Museum of Wales and Aberystwyth University.

“I think of my figures as psychological portraits, people are not fixed, we change as impressions and sensations flow in and around us. I am fascinated by the way people are constantly collecting and processing information, which is why my figures are hollow, the clay surface represents this point of contact with our environment, but what is inside is often such a mystery, and for me best represented by an empty space.”
