Singing an old Irish ballad called the “Rocky Road to Dublin” by the fireplace at my mother’s house on the Isle of Harris, Scotland. This is a great wee Irish tune written by poet D.K. Gavan in the 1800’s. I first heard Luke Kelly’s version with the Dubliners and have loved this song ever since. It’s a proper tongue twister of a song and singing it is always a good workout for the lungs, let me know if you’d like me to post some more verses! Busking a traditional Scottish folk ballad known as “The Overgate / Rovin’ Eye” in beautiful Edinburgh, Scotland. It’s been a really difficult month but I decided to go out and record this song as it’s been a great comfort to me recently. The day before my father passed away, I was coming home from some shows on the train from Newcastle and I was listening to the great Scottish folksinger Alex Campbell’s version of this song over and over and since then I’ve been playing it a lot. Something about this old ballad has helped to soothe my pain this last month, so here I am singing it for ya all with lots of love - I hope you enjoy! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿

Since you all enjoyed the last song from this session with my new microphone, I thought I’d post a wee version I recorded of another one of my favourite Appalachian ballads! Playing a cowboy ballad called “Three Days Out of Omaha” in my flat in Edinburgh, Scotland. When I first heard this song I thought it was a traditional cowboy folk ballad, but turns out it was written in 1963 by songwriter, Ted Riedel. I used to listen to Sonny James’ version of this song all the time but sadly it was taken off streaming platforms recently, so I decided to do my own wee version to tide us all over in the meantime! 🤘

Busking a traditional Scottish folk ballad called “Wild Mountain Thyme” by the castle in beautiful Edinburgh, Scotland. This is a lovely wee folk ballad with deep Scottish and Irish roots. This song also reminds me of my grandmother who used to sing this to me as a child, so I’m really happy to share with you my own version! This is a great wee historic folk ballad written in the early 19th century about Bonnie Prince Charlie, leader of the Jacobite Uprising of 1745 and a very important figure in Scottish history! 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🪕
