Sometimes the best things happen by accident.

We met Samantha just one day before this little pop-up and instantly fell in love with both her hibiscus drinks and the energy behind them. One conversation later, she was mixing sober cocktails outside our Living Room.

Now you can find the full SORUHL collection at GRAINED - the spiced Hibiscus drink, the sour Water version, and the Elixir concentrate for your own cocktails at home.

Available in-store and online.

* We’re taking a short Midsummer pause and will be back on Friday 26/6.

Most people see the nice bottle, which took forever to find.

They do not see the container.

Behind the steel doors, there’s a cloud of steam on production days inside the container, there’s heavy lifting of crates, recipe testing, cleaning, bottling, or the days when something takes twice as long as it should because building a drinks brand from scratch is never as neat as it looks from the outside.

Soruhl is handmade in that shipping container at @frihamnstorget in Stockholm. It is hands-on in every sense.

There is something very exposing about building this way. You cannot hide behind a polished brand deck when you’re the one making, moving, pouring, selling, and explaining every bottle.

But there is also something honest about it. A lot of products are built to look crafted.

Some are handcrafted because there was no other way to build them. by @soruhl

We don’t want to be the slightly better version of the same thing

We didn’t build Soruhl to be the slightly better version of the same thing. That was never the point.

We are not interested in making a cleaner cola, a more premium lemonade, or another familiar soft drink with a modern label and a nicer story. There are already plenty of businesses competing to improve the same basic reference points. Some do that very well.

What interested us was something else.

What happens when you start from a different flavour logic altogether. What happens when the drink brings cultural depth, sharper structure, and a different role at the table. What happens when it is not trying to mimic the dominant codes of the category, but offer another direction entirely.

That is what Soruhl represents for us.

Not a polite remix of the old answer, but a different answer.

Because sometimes a category does not need a slightly improved version of what it already knows. Sometimes it needs a new reference point that makes the old sameness feel more obvious than it did before.

We are not trying to protect the old playbook.

Soruhl does not fit neatly into the existing category logic, it can feel inconvenient at first. We have to explain more. We have to work harder for understanding. We often get measured against frameworks that were not built with us in mind.

But here’s the fun side to it.

We are also less trapped by inherited assumptions. We can build with sharper intent. We can say what I actually mean. We can decide what role Soruhl plays without having to stay loyal to the rules that made the category flat in the first place.

That is part of what we value about building Soruhl. It is not trying to squeeze itself into a space that was designed around safer, more predictable references. It is allowed to come with its own energy, its own story, and its own reason for being.

Not fitting in is not always a weakness. Sometimes it is the beginning of a better way to build. by @soruhl

Not every alcohol free drink belongs in the conversation.

So what’s so special about Soruhl ?

When people taste Soruhl , they often start by noticing the colour. Deep ruby in the glass. Then comes the tartness of hibiscus, the warmth of ginger, the citrus lift, and the soft spice finish. It does not behave like a generic soft drink. It behaves more like something with structure.

Why is that different? Because alcohol free choices, are often still stuck in sweetness, sameness, and safe choices.

Hibiscus brings something else. Acidity. Aroma. Tension. Presence.

If we want better alcohol free drinks, we need to stop judging them like soda and start judging them by how well they sit with food, mood, and occasion.

If you’re a foodie, your palate has probably changed a lot in the last few years.

You’ve learned the difference between regional cuisines. You know citrus beyond lemon. You understand spice, smoke, fermentation, bitterness.

But look at what’s in the glass and it often snaps back to the same small set of flavours.

A better question is this:
Has your drinks palate evolved too?

Next time you choose what to sip, ask:
Does it come from somewhere real?
Does it have proper flavour architecture, not just sweetness?
Does it actually belong at the table with food?

One of the easiest upgrades is to explore heritage drinks.

Soruhl is a modern take on sorrel: hibiscus layered with ginger, citrus and warm spice. Deep ruby, tart, grown-up, and built to be food-friendly.

When the food is adventurous, the drink should be too

Pictured are the home fridges of three world class chefs. Same story in both: our food choices have gone global, but our drink choices often haven’t.

Garam masala. Gochujang. Tahini. Jerk. Harissa. All normal now.

But when it comes to drinks, we still play it safe:
cola, citrus, sweet fruit, water.

When was the last time you had a drink with real cultural heritage, not just a seasonal flavour?

Soruhl exists to bring that depth back to the table.

A modern take on Jamaican sorrel: hibiscus layered with ginger, citrus and warm spice. Deep ruby. Tart. Food-friendly. The kind of pour that makes guests ask what it is.

Quench Your Curiosity.

What’s a heritage drink you’ve tried, or grew up with, that deserves a proper comeback?

Christmas time - means a lot of #AW
Time to raise a glass, wind down, and enjoy the upcoming holidays — #Soruhl style.

Here’s how we keep it tasty (and hangover-free):

šŸ· Soruhl Spritz – Soruhl + sparkling water + blood orange
šŸ· Soruhl Glow – Soruhl + lingonberry tonic + lime
šŸ· Soruhl Cooler – Soruhl + elderflower tonic + mint

Simple. Refreshing. No headache tomorrow.
(And yes, they also work beautifully with rum, gin, or prosecco if you prefer.)

Look up to our previous post for more recipes!
