Earlier this week I had the pleasure of attending the press night of 𝘓𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘙𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘖𝘯𝘦 𝘐𝘯 🩸

We screened Tomas Alfredson’s 2008 film a few years back at film club for our children in horror theme, and so it’s only right we see this iconic story brought to life once more on the London stage.

Adapted for stage by Jack Thorne (𝘈𝘥𝘰𝘭𝘦𝘴𝘤𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦) and directed by James Darce, the play features 18 of Britain’s most talented young performers from the NYT REP Company, joined by Michelle Asante and Colin Tierney, to tell this boy meets vampire coming of age love story:

Oskar is a bullied, lonely teenage boy, living with his mother on a housing estate at the edge of town, when a spate of sinister killings rock the neighbourhood. Eli is the young girl who has just moved in next door. She doesn’t go to school and never leaves the flat by day. Sensing in each other a kindred spirit, the two become devoted friends. What Oskar doesn’t know is that Eli has been a teenager for a very long time.

It was great to see young, diverse voices in this retelling and the unique perspective this allowed for a story that is over 2 decades old. The ensemble brought great energy and emotional conviction to the production, while the lighting and sound design created an eerie & immersive atmosphere throughout the evening. Fans of the original story will appreciate seeing this cult classic reimagined for the stage, with its themes of alienation, intimacy and the search for belonging still resonating strongly today.

𝘓𝘦𝘵 𝘵𝘩𝘦 𝘙𝘪𝘨𝘩𝘵 𝘖𝘯𝘦 𝘐𝘯 runs until 23 May at Underbelly Boulevard Soho - catch it whilst you can 🌟🩸 by @sosashouseofhorror

a history of horror, fear & the uncanny 🌀🔮🕯️🖤

starting to get more into my nonfiction bag as someone who loves all things witchy weird & esoteric 🫦 a global & visually complete history of folklore, film and literature that explores the human experience and how our understanding of fear and terror have evolved through the ages, this book is definitely one for those when a spookier disposition.

super beautiful illustrations, images & sources from ancient texts of hellish underworlds to modern day Black cinema, indigenous folklore and sci-fi tropes - I can’t wait to get into this one, thank you @dklivinguk 🙂‍↕️🌟 by @sosashouseofhorror
