Our third IARTS EXPO artist highlight features Tahmia Thomas @t4hm14 , who created The People Who Have Shaped Me, an installation combining hand-sculpted figurines, poetic fragments, and a digital diary exploring memory, identity, and personal relationships. The work invites viewers into a space of intimate storytelling, where small figurines and written reflections reveal the people and moments that have shaped who Tahmia is.

The IARTS EXPO is on view at the McMaster Museum of Art, from March 26 to June 26, 2026.

💌 Thank you to everyone who joined us for the opening reception of iARTS EXPO: 2026 Graduating Cohort last Saturday. Congratulations to all of the graduating students on an incredible and thoughtful presentation of their work. The exhibition is just one part of the Expo—head over to @sotamcmaster to see the full lineup of student performances last week.

This exhibition brings together the inaugural graduating classes of McMaster University’s iARTS (Integrated Arts) BA and BFA programs. Launched in 2022, iARTS fosters interdisciplinary approaches across art, performance, art histories, critical theory, and research-creation. Grounded in social justice, the program supports diverse, collaborative practices spanning acting, game design, painting and drawing, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, playwriting, dance, and filmmaking.

Featuring a wide range of capstone projects, the exhibition explores identity, memory, the body, and culture through media including animation, film, gaming, photography, ceramics, sculpture, printmaking, and mixed-media installation. Across these forms, artists transform personal experiences—of illness, culture, coming of age, queerness, migration, spirituality, and grief—into reflective and resonant acts of storytelling.

Thank you to Vice-Provost (Faculty), Office of the Vice-President, Teaching & Learning, Dr. Kim Dej, for attending, and to advisors @peter_cockett_sota and @syrusmarcus for your wonderful remarks to students.

The reel is just a snapshot of all the wonderful works — visit the exhibition at @macmuseum until June 26, 2026. Admission is free, with no registration required. by @sotamcmaster

This weekend at @sotamcmaster I will be closing my year-in-residence with New Moon V:Listening Party, a research exposition sharing the last 3+ years of research, new works, and a few exciting public engagements!

On Friday, March 27 from 5-9p, Chef Evy of @cantinetoca will share a special gallery version of her Sabi Sabi Culinary Lab, giving a hands-on introduction to prized ingredients and samples of flavours from sacred plants of the African Diaspora.

On Saturday, March 28 from 1230p, I'm conducting Ex# 21 - SENSORY SAUNA. We will use the heightened sensitivity to explore expression in communal ritual of heat, smoke, steam, and rest followed by journaling. Registration REQUIRED, more info via link in my bio!

Both days, the Fitzhenry Studios will host sound installations featuring the 15 New Moon V artists from @orchidcontemporary @moeclark , Wellington Sanipe, and @nkariuki_ , whose experimental compositions have been deeply woven into the project since I saw her perform in a church in Utrecht in 2023. Aside from these audio works, I'm especially excited to share 12 sneak peeky prints of my upcoming risoprint poster zine series, and a media gallery of artifacts from the past 20 experiments.

The show opens at 4pm on Friday March 27th, and it all closes on March 28th with my most cherished ritual - COMMUNAL MOVEMENT - with @b.a.d.j.u.d.a bringing her love for ancestral sounds to the gallery for a 3-hour set starting at 9p on Saturday.

New Moon V: Listening Party is a part of the roster of engagements in SOTA's iArts Expo. Come to learn, smell, taste, touch, sweat, dance, and take in works from SOTA students while you're here!

Huge thanks to Adrien Crossman and Dr. O, all of the New Moon artists, and all of SOTA McMaster for this amazing year of collaboration, and to @trinitysaunainc for providing the mobile sauna to make this dream project a reality! taken in McMaster School of the Arts by @sotamcmaster
