We’re officially moving out of our home of 13 years. This space, what we called the Compound at one point 😂, hosted 12 Friendsgivings, 10 white elephants and many many parties there. It’s the house where David and I fell in love. The house where we both walked to and from classes at UTA and to teach yoga at the UTA MAC. Playing D&D on the floor of the living room bc we didn’t have any furniture. Getting ready for Tanstaafl parties with the girls - craft supplies and makeup strewn everywhere. Many relationships came together and came apart there. It’s Bettie’s first home. TobyHank’s last. Petunia’s only known backyard. I’ll miss my tours to the Cemetary late at night with friends. I’ll miss the wide open space surrounding the home. The dilapidated fence leading to acres of fields behind us. The wandering creek and snapping turtle. The grey egret that petunia would scare off and the pair of ducks floating even during the cold. My walks to Doug Russell Park at the end of the road - knowing the creek and its curves like a memorized movie. The warmth of our home despite all of its many, many flaws.

Our new home is a huge improvement from our little shack and I look forward to Bettie and our family getting more space and needed amenities. I still find myself getting sentimental about leaving what has been such a constant in over a decade of my life. But I remind myself that change is the only constant - nothing lasts forever.

Watching her go crazy when we’d come across the “snow” areas is a core memory that I’ll always have of her 😭

2023 was a year of FIRSTS for me 🙃 Started 2023 in great shape, maintaining a 60 lb weight loss achievement - honestly felt like I was in the best shape of my life, but was QUICKLY humbled in February with my first bone break. My arm still hasn’t completely healed from that. And honestly, I learned so much about myself from that experience- I’m not gonna say that I’m glad it happened lol but my eyes were opened with what I’m capable of when faced with a challenge. Got to see Moulin Rouge: The Musical which was a dream. Got to go run around the mountains not knowing that would probably be my last time in awhile (with an emergency GPS device 😌) Then came my birthday weekend - had a wonderful dance party birthday followed with a positive pregnancy test the next day. Talk about a birthday gift 🥳🎉🥰 David and I got to witness the eclipse at the top of Pike’s Peak for our anniversary. And from there, just been exploring the end of 2023 in this new and changing body. Preparing for a new and changed life in 2024 🙃 And it wouldn’t have been a complete wild ride of a year if I didn’t have one more fun physical ailment to wrap up 2023 with, so I went ahead and got Covid while pregnant.
