day one of construction site weekend

putting in expanded clay.
it was a dusty day.

Due to the vaulted ceiling and the required minimum 10 cm layer of foam glass gravel, we used dry expanded clay as a lightweight filler in the areas where the floor level was too low. by @sou___1.43

what a weekend.

we feel exhausted and proud.
our skin, lungs and joints may have taken a hit but another layer of floor is in. we have received 5.5t of material, mixed, laid and leveled it.

before any grand reveal though we want want to say a huge and sincere thank you to those who came, stood against the dust, braved the heat and took their time to help us. Shout out to Julia, Felix, Markos, Fabian, Charly, Irina, Selin and Jacques!

a special thank you to our supervisor and maestro Gabór and his partner for making the trip and guiding us.

the journey of this space may be an unpredictable one but it will never not be a team effort. by @sou___1.43

SPACE FOR SEX

Space for Sex is an archival exhibition accompanying Selin Onay’s master’s thesis. Presenting the research process alongside its final outcome, the exhibition brings together photographs, videos, found objects, and observations from research into spaces of sexuality in Japan and Vienna.

From everyday urban spaces to places of intimacy, the archive explores different manifestations of sexuality, fantasy, and intimacy through photographic documentation, videos, and artefacts, inviting visitors to discover spatial and cultural differences and similarities between Japan and Vienna.

VERNISSAGE: 09 JULY from 19:00

workshop
MAKING FLOOR

It may have been physically demanding, but alongside exploring lime applications for floors and walls, we also learned how to install expanded clay in one of our back rooms.

A special thank you to Gábor for sharing his knowledge and guiding the process. And to those who were at the front lines losing sweat over mixing clay and lime by hand! With these lessons now carried forward, the installation of the larger room will now hopefully continue with the support of our community. by @sou___1.43

workshop
MAKING FLOOR

Some insights from our first workshop, MAKING FLOOR led by Gábor Szabo and @homevvork_life .
Over the course of the workshop, we explored lime as a building material and learned about its various applications for floors and walls through hands-on experimentation and making.

A big thank you to Gábor and Lea for sharing their knowledge and guiding the process, and to everyone who joined and contributed to the workshop. We truly enjoyed learning together and look forward to seeing you all again for Workshop Two. by @sou___1.43

workshop and exhibition
SHIFTING SOIL – DISCOVERY TO FORMATION

As a material exploration of different formations of soil, Shifting Soil – Discovery to Formation invited a closer engagement with the ground. Within this exhibition we discovered and rethought, reformulated and reattached ourselves to the ground that we often take for granted.

The exhibition brought together SOU–1.43’s ongoing site exploration with @studio_coat’s project KÜHLE SACHE for the @biennale.wien . In a workshop, sand excavated from the site and fragments of the existing structure were transformed into tiles that became part of the installation at the Tiertränkerbrunnen in Vienna’s 6th district, carrying material traces of one site into another public space within the city.

At its core, Shifting Soil – Discovery to Formation reflected on the capacity of collective action to shape the environments we inhabit. Through communal processes we shall care and create the public spaces we inhabit to reclaim the joy of being together.

Thank you to everyone who came and participated! by @sou___1.43
