🎙️Podcast - “Your Soulful Career Calling”
🧭 Helping parents and their kids uncover career alignment
POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
It’s scary sometimes, isn’t it? To step into something without knowing the outcome.

To be vulnerable enough to admit we don’t have it all figured out. To wonder if we’re doing too little to prepare our kids for their future… or maybe too much, and unintentionally standing in the way of their growth.

I know that tension all too well—the push and pull between wanting to protect and wanting to let go, between guiding and stepping back. And yet, I believe that inside that messy, beautiful middle is where the real transformation happens.

This space is my offering to anyone who has ever felt that same mix of hope and fear, love and uncertainty. It’s a place to explore, to grow, to be brave together.

And so, I invite you to boldly and wholeheartedly join me in the search for a better way. A way where we nurture curiosity, honor individuality, and raise the next generation not just to succeed, but to thrive. 💚

Stop mistaking uncertainty for a warning sign.

After 20 years as a physician, Dr. Vian Nguyen took a leap of faith, leaving a successful career in healthcare leadership to build something entirely new.

She didn’t have all the answers. But she had a question she couldn’t ignore and the courage to follow it.

In our conversation, Vian echoed something I deeply believe: We don’t need to have it all figured out before taking the first step.

Yet we put so much pressure on ourselves, and especially our kids, to have a clear plan before making a move.

The right major. The right career. The right timing. Some guarantee that it will all work out.

But here’s what we often get backward:

Clarity isn’t always what gives us the courage to act. It’s often what comes because we acted.

My conversation with Dr. Vian Nguyen is now available on Soulful Career Calling. I hope it encourages you to take that next step, even without all the answers.

We tell young people to find a career that fits. But how do they know what actually fits until they’ve experienced it?

My latest guest, Dr Vian Nguyen, is challenging the way we think about human potential, career decisions, and hiring.

After years in medicine, she became fascinated by a powerful truth: Who we are matters. But so does the environment we’re in.

That curiosity led her to build Behavior, a company rethinking how businesses identify talent and how young people discover where they might thrive.

The company Behavior puts people inside a real situation and shows what they do.

Rather than relying solely on résumés, interviews, or what someone says they would do, Behavior helps companies understand how candidates respond to situations that actually matter in their workplace.

And for young people? It’s an opportunity to better understand themselves, their strengths, and the environments that bring out their best.

Because career success isn’t just about having the right skills. It’s also about finding the right environment to use them.

Knowing what to do and actually doing it are two very different things.

And that gap might be one of the most overlooked challenges in healthcare and in life.

Think about it…most of us already know the things we should be doing to live healthier, happier lives.

So why don’t we do them?

My guest ok tomorrows’s episode began asking that very question while practicing medicine. She realized that giving patients more information, better advice, and even a clear plan wasn’t necessarily changing their behavior.

And it led her to a much bigger realization:

Maybe the problem isn’t what people know. Maybe it’s what gets in the way of acting on what they know.

That curiosity ultimately led her to rethink how we help people create meaningful, lasting change and took her career in an entirely new direction.

🎙️ Tomorrow on Soulful Career Calling, we explore the power of questioning what isn’t working, challenging conventional thinking, and having the courage to pursue a different solution.

Tune in tomorrow for the full episode!

Can we stop treating a change in direction like a step backward?

Some of the most successful people didn’t follow a straight path. They faced rejection, changed directions, started over, and discovered opportunities they never knew existed.

Yet when our kids change their minds, switch majors, or admit they have no idea what’s next, we can be quick to worry.

But here’s what I want parents to remember:

A detour isn’t a failure. And rejection just might be redirection.

Our kids don’t need us to have all the answers or rush in with a new plan. They need us to be their safe landing place. The person who reminds them that their worth isn’t tied to a college major, a job title, or how quickly they figure things out.

Because a successful career isn’t necessarily one that follows a straight line.

It’s one that eventually leads you toward a life that fits. 💚

I asked Dr. Amir Tahernia what advice he’d give someone who hasn’t quite figured out where they belong in the world of work.

His answer was refreshingly practical.

Work hard. Pay attention to what you’re naturally good at. And find a mentor who can help you grow.

No magic formula. No grand revelation. Just a willingness to put in the effort, recognize your gifts, and learn from people who’ve walked the road before you.

And I love that!

Because I think we put so much pressure on ourselves, and especially our kids, to discover their one true calling, as though it’s hiding somewhere waiting to be found.

But purpose often unfolds as we do.

Through effort, experience, curiosity, and people who see potential in us that we may not yet see in ourselves.

Imagine living in excruciating pain for YEARS and no one can tell you why.

For many people living with Hidradenitis Suppurativa (HS), this is their reality.

HS is a chronic inflammatory skin condition that can cause painful lumps, abscesses, and draining wounds, often in areas like the armpits and groin.

And here’s the heartbreaking part. It can take an average of 7 years to receive the correct diagnosis.

Seven years of pain, unanswered questions, misdiagnoses, and often suffering in silence because of the embarrassment surrounding the condition.

In my conversation with double board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Amir Tahernia, he sheds light on this widely misunderstood disease and how reconstructive surgery can offer life changing relief when other treatments aren’t enough.

But what struck me most wasn’t just the medical side of his work.

It was the reminder that behind every diagnosis is a person who wants to feel comfortable in their own body, participate in life, and simply feel like themselves again.

Awareness matters. Because no one should have to suffer for years just to be heard.

🎙️ Listen to my full conversation with Dr. Amir Tahernia on Soulful Career Calling.

And please share this. You never know who might finally recognize the condition they’ve been struggling with.

Plastic surgery isn’t always about changing the way someone looks. Sometimes, it’s about giving them their life back.

Social media has made plastic surgery almost synonymous with cosmetic procedures. But that’s only part of the story.

In my conversation with double board certified plastic surgeon Dr. Amir Tahernia, we talk about the side of plastic surgery we don’t hear nearly enough about: reconstructive surgery.

The work that helps people living with disfigurement, painful conditions and physical limitations. People who may have spent years hiding their bodies, avoiding certain clothes, missing activities or carrying a shame most of us will never see.

There is so much more to plastic surgery than beauty. For some patients, it’s about freedom, dignity and getting pieces of their life back.

Finding your calling doesn’t always mean changing careers.

It may mean discovering where you belong within the one you already have.

Dr. Amir Tahernia built a thriving career as a double board-certified plastic surgeon in Beverly Hills. But over time, he found himself drawn back to the work that gave him something success alone couldn’t: a deeper sense of purpose.

Reconstructive surgery and helping people who have lived with pain, physical limitations and shame reclaim pieces of their lives they thought were gone.

🎙️ Tomorrow on “Soulful Career Calling” Dr. Amir Tahernia shares the journey that led him back to the work that feels most meaningful.

We’re asking teenagers to choose a future they haven’t had a chance to experience yet.

Then we wonder why they say, “I don’t know.”

Maybe “I don’t know” isn’t the problem.

Maybe the problem is that we’re asking for certainty when they need curiosity.

Instead of pushing for a major, a career, or a five-year plan, get curious about the clues already there:

What makes them proud?
What do they want to learn?
What problems do they actually care about solving?

Those answers may tell you far more about their future than a job title or college major ever could.

Career exploration shouldn’t start with “What are you going to be?”

It should start with:

“Who are you becoming?”

That’s a very different conversation, and it’s worth having ❤️

Heartbreak can change you. But it can also become the very thing that helps you change someone else’s life.

When Maria Quiban’s husband, Sean, was diagnosed with glioblastoma, there was anger, grief and the question so many of us would ask: Why us?

But eventually, Maria and Sean began asking something different: How can we use what we’re going through to help someone else?

Sean had his words. Maria had her microphone. Together, they made a promise to use both.

They couldn’t change what was happening to them. But they could make sure their heartbreak wasn’t wasted.

And there’s something incredibly powerful about turning the hardest chapter of your life into a hand reaching out to someone else. ❤️

How many opportunities have we talked ourselves out of before they ever had a chance?

We jump ahead and imagine everything that could go wrong. We try to predict an ending when we barely know the beginning.

Maria Quiban shared a much simpler approach to this:

Pause before you say no.

Stay open. Do the research. Look at what’s actually in front of you, not all the scenarios you’ve created around it.

Then make the best decision you can with the information you have today.

You don’t need to know how the whole story ends to know whether the next step is worth taking!
