references vs. painting💋♟️

i took this reference photo when i was living in new york the first time in 2023, i knew instantly i wanted to paint it.. eventually a few months later, i got around to it but i kept adding things in (i never plan my paintings, they just come in the moment)

these included:

1. a bee my sister rescued on the side of the road
2. me blowing bubbles
3. a card someone gave me at an afters
4. a massive dollar sign on a wall in Dublin
5. my favourite shoes
6. a magic 8 ball
7. a snail i found

moral of the story is you can find inspiration in everything, hope you enjoy a glimpse into my chaotic brain <33333

my grandad’s dream was always to be an architect, but his parents (who were both teachers), wanted him to study education instead.

despite that dream never officially being realised, he would carry this curiosity of various shapes and dimensions into his later life, and one of my earlier memories is being taught by him how to draw perspective, in the form of a long narrow street with the sea in the horizon.

after his passing, my granny found his unfinished sketchbook and asked me to finish what he had started.

this one’s for you M

fulfilling my childhood dreams of being a comic artist

when i initially saw this video, it reminded me so much of one of my favourite books when i was younger (calvin & hobbes), i couldn’t figure out which still of the video to draw because they were all so good and collectively told a story. it only made sense to do it comic style and so i did🌟🌟

Inspiration for me is plentiful, it’s on the streets, in the parks. It’s people I meet on nights out who airdrop me videos, it’s strangers on the internet who send me photo references, the art of noticing is something I’ve always tried to embody before this page ever existed and will continue to for as long as I can still open my eyes<3

Anyway, a girl I met at a festival a few months ago in London sent me this video of her nephew and dog and its innocence & joy reminded me so much of Calvin and Hobbes (my childhood obsession), and I knew what I should draw next

Hope yas enjoy X
