CRAVINGS PART ✌🏻
⠀⠀
(📸: @barefoottim )
⠀⠀
Earlier, I shared a post containing information I’ve gathered via @medicalmedium discussing cravings. If you’re curious as to what’s really behind your sugar, salt, dairy, stimulant, or alcohol desires, check it out!
⠀⠀
In addition to those elements playing a role, here are a few others 👉🏻
⠀⠀
DETOX CRAVINGS
⠀⠀
Did you know that as you detox more, and your body finally gets a chance to rid itself of all that old gunk within you, your cells can release toxins from unproductive foods you’ve eaten in the past, causing cravings and memories to come to the surface?
⠀⠀
Wild, right? 😯
⠀⠀
Rather than acting on that impulse to eat all your ex-faves, consider these cravings as valuable reminders: they’re indicators that toxins are leaving you. The last thing you’d want to do is interrupt that cleansing process, so try to ride them out!
⠀⠀
HOW TO DEAL
⠀⠀
A way to navigate these cravings is to plan ahead and keep food on hand. Learn to interpret them and what they really mean by using the info I’ve referenced above and in my previous post. Find healthier substitutes for your old favorite recipes, and like I said, eat enough!
⠀⠀
Medical Medium has TONS of recipes you can find throughout his books and blog. I’d also recommend checking out @heyashfoster, @holistically_thriving, and @foodsinmykitchen for some BOMB looking clean recipe inspo/ebooks.
⠀⠀
FOODS THAT HELP
⠀⠀
While a majority of whole, plant foods can help lessen cravings, I wanted to list the ones in Life-Changing Foods MM has specifically said that can help with them.
⠀⠀
For general cravings, these include:
Apricots
Cherries
Cranberries
⠀⠀
For sweets cravings, in particular:
Sprouts and Microgreens
Red Clover
⠀⠀
Additionally, he says that pears can prevent you from craving sweets, and that dairy should be avoided for sweets cravings as well.
⠀⠀
Spinach, blackberries, winter squash (such as butternut, acorn, etc.), and macadamia nuts can help too.
⠀⠀
I hope these have helped! taken in San Antonio, Texas by @soulscheihing

CRAVINGS
⠀⠀
(Also, side note: @barefoottim candidly shot this photo of me with the love of my life. 🍉 He’s such a talented couples photographer, and I highly recommend checking him out!)
⠀⠀
As someone that used to down family sized bags of chips and loads of ice cream, it baffles me sometimes how I’ve been able to stay on track with this lifestyle.
⠀⠀
One huge piece to my success was that I began learning what my cravings were ACTUALLY telling me.
⠀⠀
Below I’ve gathered some general cravings-related info, based on the resources of @medicalmedium ⠀⠀
To start, make sure you’re eating enough. If you’re not getting in a sufficient amount of calories, cravings will definitely come!
⠀⠀
SUGAR
Sugar cravings can typically indicate that you need more glucose! Instead of reaching for that candy (or even pizza), eat as much fruit and natural sugar from whole plant foods as you’d like.
⠀⠀
SALT
If you’re craving salt, your body most likely needs the mineral salts found in veggies, leafy greens, and certain fruits to help aid your adrenal glands and brain neurotransmitters. Additionally, try grazing on a balance of natural sodium, potassium, and glucose, every 1.5-2 hrs.
⠀⠀
DAIRY
If you crave dairy, this is usually due to a sugar craving, as the lactose (sugar) in dairy is high.
⠀⠀
STIMULANTS
If you have a stimulants craving (i.e., cigarettes, caffeine, or even prescription drugs like amphetamines), this can mean you need glucose + other nutrients found in things like fruit to wake up the brain. It can also mean that you may be seeking out a substitute for your missing adrenal hormones.
⠀⠀
Similarly with salt, try to find ways to alleviate stress within your life + graze every 1.5-2 hrs on a balance of potassium, sodium from mineral salts, and natural sugars. ⠀⠀
For both stimulants and salt cravings, you could also try implementing foods and supplements that help with adrenal fatigue, and avoid foods and diets that are higher in fat and low in carbs.
⠀⠀
ALCOHOL
Alcohol cravings can indicate that you need glucose. Similarly with sugar cravings, consuming more fruit and/or carb-rich foods such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, squashes, etc., can help.

Another day, another crop top that’s too big. 😂
⠀⠀
I’m a little nostalgic right now, because almost three years ago to the day, I dragged myself into the bookstore searching for some answers on how to heal my broken heart.
⠀⠀
Little did I know that I would walk out of that store with something that would change the course of my life.
⠀⠀
Since discovering @medicalmedium ‘s first book (which is currently on sale for less that $10 on Amazon right now!), I have been able to lose nearly 75 pounds (almost 100 pounds from my highest weight on record), all through natural and health-promoting means.
⠀⠀
I didn’t restrict my calories. I didn’t rigorously exercise.
⠀⠀
I actually ate an abundance of healthy foods, and lessened the effects of many of my other symptoms in the process.
⠀⠀
I know sometimes I might sound like an ad (lol #notspons) but I tell this story over and over and OVER again because I remember scrolling through Instagram three years ago, trying to cut through the thick of it all and find what actually worked.
⠀⠀
I was desperate to feel better at the time, and I’m sure some of you might be too.
⠀⠀
The next time you find yourself in the midst of a health challenge, consider this an option, and know that you are worthy and deserving of living your most healthy life.

In 2016 I had to leave college due to my health. It was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever had to make, but it was also one of the most rewarding.
⠀⠀
During the 2015-2016 academic year, I was living in Boston, attending one of the most prestigious music schools in the world.
⠀⠀
I felt so purposeful, but I was overbooking myself like crazy.
⠀⠀
From being in class six days a week, to living in a mold-infested apartment, the combination of less than optimal lifestyle choices, toxins, traumas, pathogens (e.g., Epstein-Barr virus), adrenaline, and more, were all starting to severely effect me.
⠀⠀
One symptom that really got to me during this time was my anxiety. It manifested in the form of hours-long, debilitating panic attacks.
⠀⠀
I remember being bound to a chair, crying my eyes out for hours, because of these episodes.
⠀⠀
And they happened almost every week of the semester (15 weeks), multiple times per week.
⠀⠀
Not to mention I was also overweight (225 at my heaviest, and 200 pounds here), verging on hypoglycemia, all the while trying to navigate ADHD, hypothyroidism, adrenal fatigue, depression, and more.
⠀⠀
Eventually I had reached a point of such burnout, that when my email came notifying me to register for classes the following semester, I didn’t even open it up.
⠀⠀
I knew I needed to go home, and I knew I needed to heal.
⠀⠀
So I went home, curtailed the healing process for a period of time, and then found @medicalmedium.

Looking for some sauce or low-fat, plant-based meal inspo? Try pairing your favorite, thicker soups, with your desired vegetables or fresh greens of choice.
⠀⠀
Here’s a lil throwback to when I was eating cooked foods my first time doing @medicalmedium’s Liver Rescue 3:6:9 (@369cleanse 🍎).
⠀⠀
ASPARAGUS SOUP (taken and modified from @medicalmedium Life-Changing Foods):
⠀⠀
5 cups chopped asparagus
1/2-1 yellow onion, roughly chopped
At least 2-4 garlic cloves
1/2 teaspoon poultry seasoning
1/4 teaspoon sea salt or to taste
1/4-1/2 cup almonds
Black pepper to taste
⠀⠀
Place the asparagus, yellow onion, and garlic in a saucepan. Add 2 cups of water; cover and bring to a simmer. Steam the asparagus for 5 to 7 minutes, until tender. Remove from heat. Drain off any excess water and transfer the mixture to a blender*. Add all the remaining ingredients and blend until smooth. Allow steam to escape the top of the blender as you go.
⠀⠀
*You may also use an immersion blender, if desired. Leave the asparagus in the pan and add all the remaining ingredients before blending.
⠀⠀
Here we paired it with our faves, steamed potatoes and broccoli. 🥰
⠀⠀
Additionally, since we were in a hotel room at the time and didn’t have a stove, we ended up using a portable electronic steaming pot instead! Always a plus when you don’t have to clean as much. 👌🏻 taken in San Antonio, Texas by @soulscheihing

CJ TIME AT THE ZOO 😂🐶
⠀⠀
Our doggos love celery, but every time we put the juice in their bowls, it’d just sit there! So we recently started giving it to them through a syringe and they’re obSESSED. 😍
⠀⠀
“CELERY JUICE FOR PETS
People often feel so great when they’re on celery juice that they wonder if they can give it to their pets, too. Celery juice is safe for dogs and cats, and I can even tell you that I use it personally for my dogs. Check with your vet for what amount is right for your particular dog or cat. If you’re interested in giving celery juice to another type of animal, ask your vet about whether it’s appropriate.” —@medicalmedium taken in San Antonio, Texas by @soulscheihing

From turning up at 200+ pounds to serving sobriety realness at 130. 💁🏻‍♀️ (Also perks of losing a bunch of weight is finally being able to borrow your sibling’s clothes 😭🙏🏻)
⠀⠀
The transition to healthier living has not been an overnight process for me. Although in some instances I made snap decisions, like choosing to jump into a plant-based diet over night, or spontaneously diving into a diet comprised of all raw foods, but for other aspects, like drinking, it has not been so black and white.
⠀⠀
I continued to drink minimally about a year into implementing @medicalmedium protocols. Prior to finding MM I struggled a lot with binge drinking and consuming alcohol waaaay too quickly for my body to handle.
⠀⠀
It’s like by the time I could feel it’s impact it was too late. 🙈
⠀⠀
Over time, I began to notice more and more of the negative effects it had on me the healthier I got, and last April, for my 23rd birthday, I decided to give myself the gift of complete sobriety.
⠀⠀
It has been an eye-opening (and surprisingly, confidence-inducing) experience for me, and I firmly believe that without the information of @medicalmedium, I would not have gotten to this point as easily as I have.
⠀⠀
I know I probably sound like a broken record, but it’s truly magical at what the power of glucose can do for a person! #bless fruits and veggies and a big celery juice cheers to my sobriety squad. 🥂
⠀⠀
Now if you’ll excuse me I’ll be creating a club that exclusively serves juice and smoothies instead of alcohol, who’s with me? 🙋🏻‍♀️ taken in San Antonio, Texas by @soulscheihing

FOODS THAT HELP WITH OVEREATING
⠀⠀
The quality is poor, but that transformation tho!
⠀⠀
On the left is me on vacation from five years ago around 225 pounds. On the right is me on the same vacation last month around 130.
⠀⠀
Since losing a significant amount of weight and leading a low-fat, plant based diet full of whole fruits and vegetables, I wanted to pass along some helpful information I’ve sourced from the @medicalmedium blog and his second book, Life-Changing Foods, that can help if you’re feeling challenged by overeating.
⠀⠀
Some foods that can help with overeating include:
Asparagus
Brussel Sprouts
Broccoli
Cashews (1 oz a day)
Pears (between breakfast and lunch, or in the late afternoon before dinner)
Pomegranates (before a meal)
⠀⠀
Additionally, some foods that can help with emotional eating are:
Grapes
Artichokes
Turmeric
⠀⠀
Although many of these foods help curb the appetite and help you to avoid overconsumption, most fruits and vegetables are incredibly healing to the body and can help you in SO many ways as find your way to healthier living.

MY CURRENT MORNING ROUTINE ☀️
⠀⠀
32 ounces of lemon water 🍋
Although lemon water is great anytime of the day, one of the reasons why it is so effective first thing in the morning is because it flushes out the toxins your liver gathered and purged the night before. This is one of the first things I recommend to anyone transitioning into a healthier lifestyle, as it’s easy, highly effective, and oftentimes immediately noticeable because so many of us are walking around chronically dehydrated!
I wait at least 15-20 minutes, but ideally 30 minutes, before consuming anything else.
⠀⠀
16-32 ounces of celery juice 🌱🥤
Need I say much about this powerful healing remedy? Celery juice is a true miracle worker, especially first thing in the morning, after water. It can provide benefits such as better digestion, less bloating, weight loss, clearer skin, stable moods, and more. For more information on the healing effects of this restorative drink, check out @medicalmedium and his new book Celery Juice, as well as @celeryjuicebenefits and @celeryjuiceheals
I wait at least 15-20 minutes, but ideally 30 minutes, before consuming anything else.
⠀⠀
Half a watermelon, eaten whole or juiced 🍉
Melons are a critical component to the healing process, and are one of the most alkalizing foods. Watermelon in particular can effectively hydrate, detoxify, and cleanse the entire body on a cellular level. It’s like getting IV nutrient therapy, and can help with a variety of different issues, such as weight loss and depression. Because melon is a predigested food (meaning when it enters the body, it’s immediately digested), I typically have it solely first thing in the morning after water and CJ.
⠀⠀
Smoothie, nice cream, or fruit 🍌
When I’m hungry next, I’ll typically make some sort of fruit-based meal. Some great options are the Heavy Metal Detox smoothie, the Thyroid Healing smoothie, the Liver Rescue smoothie, and more! You can easily make these options as nice cream, or enjoy the ingredients whole on their own.
⠀⠀
This is what I’ve typically been doing lately, especially now that watermelon szn is alive and well! 🥰 How do you like to start your day? taken in San Antonio, Texas by @soulscheihing

HEALING BEACH MEDITATION ☀️ ⠀⠀
The beach is one of my favorite places. Every year I go with my family, and since coming across @medicalmedium, each trip has provided me with more emotional and mental healing than I could have imagined.
⠀⠀
Below I’ve listed one of my favorite meditations that can provide relief from those challenged by PTSD, pain, suffering, and more.
⠀⠀
Waves on the Beach 🌊
“As you sit, stand, or walk on the beach, envision every wave as a surge of soul-cleansing energy. When a wave comes in, imagine it bathing any war wounds and scrubbing loose any damaging emotions or thoughts. As the wave recedes, watch it take away all those impurities. With each wave, let yourself be cleansed of poisonous memories, injuries from past lives, and stains on the soul. See them all wash out to sea. When you feel purified, let each new wave bring strength and renewal to your spirit and soul.” @medicalmedium ⠀⠀
Additionally, you can call upon the Angel of Ocean, as she’ll help put you in the best mindset for the meditation to have maximum effect.
⠀⠀
And wading is excellent too! Any natural water source—lake, river, stream, ocean—is alive. When you step into into it, envision the things you want to come true in your life.
⠀⠀
Other healing activities I enjoy doing include sunbathing, listening to birdsong, restoring trust with the sunsets, gazing beyond the stars, moon watching, and more.

Today marks 65 days RAW, FAT-, and SALT-FREE.
⠀⠀
Contrary to popular and trendy diets, too much fat is not the most optimal thing for one’s body, especially if they’re navigating the world of chronic and mystery illness.
⠀⠀
Sure, types of fats matter. Avocado and coconut and nuts and seeds among other things are GREAT sources of fat—but the LEVELS matter too.
⠀⠀
As @medicalmedium explains, “The bombardment of a high-fat diet takes time and energy away from the liver performing its other duties, [like disarming and detaining harmful materials,] because it’s constantly in cleanup-in-Aisle-Three-mode.”
⠀⠀
It also requires the liver to produce different amounts and complex compositions of bile, which, although helps you in the moment, is not something you want happening repeatedly in the long-run.
⠀⠀
For this reason, when I do consume fats, I choose them from healthy, plant-based sources (like the ones mentioned above), and keep them under 15% of my diet.
⠀⠀
So why am I not consuming any fat? Because this is the year of Maddie’s Liver. 🥰
⠀⠀
When I reflected upon what kind of changes I wanted to make this year, I told myself that I wanted to honor my liver, just as it has honored me for my whole life. I wanted to take my healing to the next level, and ease my liver up that much more.
⠀⠀
I also felt inspired following @omumakali’s journey, as they recently embarked on a raw and fat-free journey as well.
⠀⠀
Featured here is one of my favorite fat-free meals as of late: cucumber noodles with a tomato-date sauce. Those are homegrown cherry tomatoes too. ☺️
⠀⠀
Have you lowered or even eliminated your fats? If so, how has it gone? taken in Kansas City, Kansas by @soulscheihing

Healing can be hard. ⠀⠀
Whether it be physically, emotionally, spiritually, or otherwise. ⠀⠀
Maybe you’re dealing with mysterious rashes that flare up for no seeming reason. Or maybe you find yourself shoveling down your meals because you cannot satiate your hunger. ⠀⠀
Maybe your depression leaves you out of commission for days, or your anxiety debilitates you to a given room for hours on end. ⠀⠀
Maybe your body pulsates from extreme adrenal fatigue, or your hair is falling out more and more every time you take a shower.
⠀⠀
Maybe you’ve felt left behind. Maybe you’re scared. Maybe you feel unlovable; that no one understands you, and that you are all alone in your suffering.
⠀⠀
I’m here to tell you that you are not alone, and that you are so loved.
⠀⠀
I’ve been there. Some days I still am there.
⠀⠀
But if there’s one thing, ONE thing, that I have learned throughout this entire process of healing, it’s compassion.
⠀⠀
Be gentle with yourself. Healing is a process. Sometimes, even with the right information, it can take time. It’s three steps forward, two steps back. It’s tiring and unpredictable and kind of scary.
⠀⠀
If you find yourself crashing through the waves, I encourage you to take stock. Maybe you haven’t seen any substantial progress yet, or feel like you have a long ways to go. Maybe you were doing well for awhile, but have come to a plateau. ⠀⠀
Congratulate yourself. Honor your victories. Celebrate the beautifully rich transformative soul that you are, messiness and all.
⠀⠀
Who knows. In five years time, you could be a girl who’s not only lost almost 100 pounds, but has gained so much heart.
⠀⠀
If you’re curious about working with me in the future, or just want to talk, message me. 🍎 taken in San Antonio, Texas by @soulscheihing
