There are things we should never have to teach our children to be afraid of.

And there are women who leave home every morning simply hoping they will return safely.

A mother selling on the street.
A woman travelling home after a late shift.
A domestic worker making her way home before sunrise.
A young girl walking through her community.
A child who may not know what to do when something feels wrong.

For many people, a safety whistle or a personal safety resource may seem like a small thing.

But for someone who cannot afford one, that small thing can mean having one more tool, one more option, one more way to call for help.

That is why we created Sound & Shield SA. 🔊🛡️

Through SOUND, we want to donate safety whistles to primary and high school learners and help them understand that their voices matter and that they should speak up and seek help when they feel unsafe.

Through SHIELD, we want to provide appropriate personal safety resources, including pepper spray where legally appropriate, to adult women who may not be able to afford them including women such as street vendors, informal traders, domestic workers, commuters and others who face safety challenges in their everyday lives.

We know we cannot change everything overnight.But we can start

We can put a whistle into one child's hand.
We can help one woman access a safety resource.
We can educate one person.
We can reach one more community.

And if enough of us choose to help, one becomes many.
