It wasn’t cheating — it was self‑sabotage.

Thanks to Sounding Line, you’re about to get a free masterclass in Mental Fitness 101. March Madness is here — think turning the ball over mentally. We saw plenty of that at the DGPT Big Easy Open. And just like the Final Four, it made for great entertainment - wouldn’t change a thing.

From the depths of my heart, thank you to Ricky, Gannon, and Jeff Spring for putting their Saboteurs on display — even when it costs relationships, balance, and perspective. Energy was thick. Imagine being on that card. Missing shorties. Air‑balling. The fear, the self‑doubt, the frustration. The prefrontal cortex going offline.

If you’re a touring pro and you somehow land on my feeble feed, read to the end — there’s a free offer for you. Fans: share, like, help a pro.

Gannon’s gamesmanship is incredible. He’s twenty with enough nasty to walk into Rucker Park with a bunch of dudes from Iowa and not skip a beat. When you’re young, you think your Hyper‑Achiever Saboteur is your edge. Punking people down feels like a superpower. Think Tiger in the early 2000s.
Saboteurs are overused gifts — your wiring going left brain instead of right.
Ricky’s Hyper‑Achiever has a clear trigger. Once you know the pattern, it’s easy to map. And Ricky manages it beautifully — except when he’s head‑to‑head with Gannon! He’s 32. He knows what legacy is.
Jeff Spring carries a different one — The Pleaser. And he is liked. But you can’t coddle your stars. It’s about what’s best for the DGPT. And I genuinely wonder if he asked the one question a Pleaser avoids:
What pleases me?
Through factor analysis, my colleagues and I have narrowed these down to ten negative response mechanisms. Know your tendencies, control your thoughts.

I’m offering a free seven‑week mental fitness program for five touring pros. Build the mental muscles that hold up for the whole season — with a few caveats.
Email drew@soundingline.com by March 24 at midnight to learn how a ten‑minute‑a‑day commitment can transform your season. All others, email me too and I’ll send you a free Saboteur assessment.

Anders ripping Opto Explorers with a 20 mph right to left. Muddy Run. Lancaster PA. Always nice when two locals join up with you for that four card. And then hook Anders up with a Muddy stamped Hex. Good times. Nice folks. Count your blessings. by @sounding_line

Here’s my analysis of the DGPT off season.

"We call it sunset, and it is something we witness as real, but it is the earth turning. There’s a great risk to losing our comforting illusions, but in the process we may find new truths. Illusions are constructions but not all constructions are illusions."

Yes, running a professional sports league is difficult. Yes, winning on tour is difficult. Yes, doing the accounting on a warehouse full of unsold discs freaks out investors.

What stands in the way, becomes the way.

There’s a point in time, in the life of every disc golfer, when they lose their instinctive rhythm, can’t remember a disc angle, how to grip the mid-range, how much air to put under an approach…if you can’t recover, you are done…

We play a sport where insouciance combined with supernatural exactitude wins championships.

The game wants us to think it’s easy. Practice is never about making putts. Your “‘practice” is about what you cease to do. Practice is about what matters now.

soundinglineperformance.com is committed to exactly that moment in time when the crowd is guzzling beer, getting ready to roar, and you need to focus on the next step, unencumbered - the most urgent action, with the quietest of mind.

If you are interested in the neuroscience of sustained peak performance, what mental fitness looks like on an MRI and perspectives and techniques that clarify who you are and the kind of game you bring to the table, please comment and like. Share me up, lord knows I have no social media game.

Over the next couple months I’ll share what Sounding Line is about and how having an operating system for life is the difference maker.

If you are interested in an eight week, app and pod driven positive intelligence foundations experience, DM = Drew McDowell. by @sounding_line

Championship Sunday. Good day for the kids. Played Brewster 1, 2, 3 and got right to following chase card. Chairs. Quality snacks. By the time Ricky got to five he had the crowd going. And he was all gas and closing on 14. The way Ricky plays is pure joy. And we got a taste of it. Gannon went OB. Ricky chained out. A missed opportunity. Right after the hole Ricky’s caddie dropped a signed Raptor on my seven year olds lap. Anders jumped up, gave a yelp and held up the disc happy as heck. Ricky gave him a fist pump. You can’t put a price tag on a caddie like that. And nobody can coach you to be like Ricky Wysocki. But if you work with Soundling Line I can coach you on how to be you. by @sounding_line

It’s moving day. Time to get serious. Sounding Line has nothing to do with disc golf. Mental fitness is how to commit to yourself. The choices you make and how you experience opportunities and make things possible. The quality of information you get from your brain. The intersection of how you perform, toil for an existence and the career and life you build. Who you are matters. Discover why? by @sounding_line

Paul Krans in the house. Log jam at neg 8. He doesn’t have his day one caddie Brad Schott due to Brad’s pervious commitment to be a movie star. But he dialed. Who goes better today GT Hancock or Paul? by @sounding_line

Slow day today so far. Cards getting ready to go. Playing Fox Run so better viewing. Interesting lead card today. To tell you the truth, both of them looked shaky. Uncertain of success. And it makes sense. Not like there is something wrong, just something not fundamentally right. Looking around versus looking ahead. I wonder what they do to manage that kind of stress and if it works. They seem locked into time, not the moment. I’m witnessing that a lot of these guys need a charge to get going. McBeth. Gannon. That must take a lot of energy. I don’t think that’s the case for Eagle and Alden. They need something different. I’m bored and “my restlessness is my nemesis”. So I’ll make posts to all 14 of my followers. by @sounding_line
