Exercises Vol.1 aka the first volume of short sketches.
This is a compilation made of short guitar sketches I recorded last Friday without using any pedal or synth pad, just my guitar and the effects from Logic Pro.

The idea came after listening to Sigur Ros's Hlemmur and Explosions In The Sky's Big Bend soundtrack

Reel # 130 - a cover of "Storm Sets In" song by legendary ambient duo @hammockband as today is the 20th anniversary of Kenotic, their first release, which has been also very influential for my compositions as @soundsfromthemarshes

Song # 9 & 10 - Black Sands Interlude

Originally, this composition was designed to be 6-7 minutes in a constant growing but in the end i decided to shorten it to 3 minutes as it was hard for me to find the right pace for this song. So I decided to shorten it and use it as opening track for the closing song, the cover of The Cure's Plainsong, which ends the release.
The piano intro before the guitar riff is a quote from the song "Green grass of tunnel", song by the Icelandic band @mumtheband , I've been inspired by that song probably since I saw the music video for the first time (it was probably 2003)

Song # 8 - Dawn breaks through the ruins

This is also a very old song I composed in the year 2014 and it's included in my third volume of the "Ambient Marsh" series, compilations of semi-improvised guitar loops available for free on.ky bandcamp page.
10 yeard after I recorded that song, I decided to give it a new life with orchestral pads and growing drum beats.

Song # 7 - Princess of fairies

This is only one song, with Plainsong, where I sing but it's also one of the two songs, with Horizon, where I don't use any rhythm section at all, just effected guitar arpeggios, orchestral pad and my voice.
I've been trying a lot to create an orchestral track after listening to two albums who have been an inspiration for me last year: Àtta from Sigur Rós and Mementos from @totallynotgisli .
I could say this is my first trial with orchestral pads.

Song # 6 - Low Rolling Tide

This is also a cover, precisely from another solo project named Funeral Electrical.
The original song was 5 minutes long and just keypads, a simple drum beat. In my version, I shortened it to 3 minutes to make it less boring and added guitar arpeggios, bass lines, and a reverb plug in on the drum part named "Seashore" (such a suitable name).
Different from Horizon, the sea sound at the beginning comes from a Logic Pro loop.

Song # 5 - Window

This song is a short instrumental tribute to one of the sweetest artists I've ever met. Yes, this song is originally one of the last amazing four solo tracks by @solveigmatthildur , keyboardist from the band @kaelanmikla , whom I am so thankful 🥰

Song # 4 - Horizon

This is also a very old song, and precisely it's the first part of a dark ambient jam session I did in 2015 with Static Continuum, aka me, @quantum_prana and @owtkri .
This is also the only one song where I don't use any drum beat or synth pad, just my guitar and the sound of the waves recorded straight from Reynisfjara

Song # 3 - Reynisfjara ( The Ocean's fury )

Even if this song is mainly inspired by the sight of Reynisfjara with its black sands and its thunderous waves, originally, it was started in 2018, 6 years before my trip, and it was designed to be a final part of an EP with Joy and Into The Wilderness, but for a lot of different reasons the project remained unfinished. The trip to Reykjavík and Southern Iceland and the stop at Reynisfjara gave me the strength to find new inspiration and finish not only the song but also the entire release.

Song # 2 - Into The Vast Wilderness

This song can be described more as a segue, starting calmly with synth pads and reverbered guitar arpeggios and growing fast with drum beats till it culminates to the following song.
The vast wilderness is the landscape I saw in Southern Iceland during our guided trip to Reynisfjara, so dark and beautiful at the same time.

Black Sands and Memories is finally out on the main retailers. Now, it's time to describe all the songs that are in the release.

Song # 1 - Joy

The opening track of the album is a cover from @time_space_repeat , and it's originally also an opening track from their album "Early Transmissions" (2003), that was the period when I started university, digged deeply into post-rock and MySpace was principally the main social to find new bands and netlabels.
One of these netlabels rising on MySpace was the Lost Children Netlabel, now disappeared 😞, but at that time, it was one of my main sources of finding new music: there I found bands like Loss Of A Child, From The Sky and @time_space_repeat ✨️

My new release is right now on the way to the main music distributors, and it will probably be out next week or later.

A release which is mainly inspired by my last March trip in Southern Iceland, the artwork is a picture taken by me at Reynisfjara beach (thanks to my colleague @quantum_prana to make it perfect).

Even if the greatest part of the compositions in this release comes from that trip, some other songs were started in 2018 and left unfinished for years for many reasons, and they're coming in a new form.
Some are also covers.
