It's done! I've finished my written master's thesis, "Speculating Futures Through Black Collective Performance," which accompanied my recent installation. So happy with all the work I put into this and can't believe it's over (nearly!). I almost cried when I touched the first copy at the print shop 😭😭💚💚💚Next Monday (07.07 lucky dayyy) at 14h I'll be doing my PUBLIC defense at Lietzenburger Str 45 room 314. Please come! Helllllooooooo. I'm starting a new thing: PUNK KINO: Specializing in queer, Black and queer Black films. The first edition is coming up just in time for international queer pride in Berlin on Thursday, 23 July and is a double feature!! Doors open at 18:30 and will close promptly at 19h when the first film begins. Lunchbox Candy started in 2021 as a Berlin queer rave and artist collective. Later, it included “Sugar Free” events for sober Berliners—a sanctuary in a scene that often celebrates drugs and excess. LBC had a big “come as your inner child” spirit, with guest performances from icons like Peaches (@peachesnisker) and a devoted, international family of dancers. Now it’s over: in an Instagram statement posted Wednesday, Jan. 21, 2026, co-founder Stephanos Pantelas, aka El Nino Diablo (@elninodiablomusic), announced an end to the party after four years. To properly say goodbye, we asked seven creatives—DJs, dancers, and even a local author—who loved LBC to share their best memories from the party. Thanks for the love, @lunchboxcandy. Unexpectedly I closed out 2025 and welcomed in 2026 dancing and DJing in New Orleans, a place I miss daily. While there, I celebrated 1 year alcohol freeRan 12km to celebrate each month not drinking (ouch)Played B2B for the first time with my good Judy @mynameisphlegm Watched the first sunrise of 2026 on the Mississippi River.Spent the holidays with my family for the first time in a decade.Became a fan of @_female_trouble_ Caught up with old friends and made new ones. Today I am celebrating 11 months alcohol free! And I am feeling good. And emotional. I am generally FEELING a lot these days. I definitely have used alcohol as a coping mechanism at different points in life, and in beginning to let it go, I experienced a lot of anxiety, grief, and loss. Like putting part of myself to rest. Shedding a layer of skin…or a whole person. And then the realization that it made a lot of space in my life, and I needed (and still do) need to find new things to do. That’s been hard… and fun.I can’t say I won’t drink ever again, but I also can’t say I miss it. One of the things I do miss that I haven’t yet found a remedy for is the social aspect that drinking and the activities surrounding it come with. I’m feeling a social void. A void of adventure and spontaneity. That’s been hard. Maybe the hardest part. But I guess it’ll take some time to shift, as I spent so much time socializing in bars and having alcohol-fueled adventures through the night in the last 15 years. Sometimes I feel boring and/or bored. I wanna figure out how to access the fun parts of my drunk self, in sober life. Let’s see. If you’re thinking about stopping alcohol, or anything for that matter, do it! I can say go slow, find a friend to lean on, and ask for advice. Don’t be rigid right from the start. Also… it’s pretty interesting to stop something you do all the time just to see what happens. I’ll leave it there.Love y’allxoxo by @soundslikeminq
