Premiering last night at @maorilandfilm alongside Rachel House's '@temaungafilm The Mountain' (an unexpected twist for which we were so grateful for), we are pleased to finally release this labour of love to the public at large!

Our Living Painting tells the story of Hineraukatauri, the atua of Māori music.

Jerome symbolically embodies Pepepe - ira Tane the male essence, performing Taonga Pūoro for Raukatauri - Atua Wahine - goddess, her cocoon glowing as she listens intently. Marcus' sand art brings the story to life; his artistic rendition embedded in the center of the scenery, enchanting the audience with every stroke of hand.

This Kaupapa from the beginning to the end was a true and equal collaboration between all three artists involved, giving us all an opportunity to practice our roles as Tangata Whenua & Tangata Tiriti honouring Te Tiriti o Waitangi. by @soundsofasphere

This performance will feature carefully curated Ragas and Bhajans (devotional songs) that celebrate the auspiciousness of Diwali.

Their set will blend the melodious sounds of the saxophone with Indian Classical vocals, guiding you on a journey of sound. This fusion will foster deep insight and healing through sacred music.

Sanya Minocha is a Holistic Coach & Counsellor and Indian classical vocalist based in Tāmaki Makaurau. Originally from India, where music was never just an art form but a path to the divine, she has learned to express depth through sound and the sacred path of self-discovery. This lived experience fuels her music and guides others.

Hanna Wiskari is a Swedish saxophonist whose musical roots lie in Nordic folk traditions. With a distinctive soprano saxophone voice, she has performed extensively with various ensembles and projects. Since moving to Aotearoa, Hanna has become a leading force in fostering intercultural exchange through music, co-founding Ethno New Zealand and Arts Connections Oceania. taken in Aotea Centre by @soundsofasphere

Live now is an exclusive interview with @beeble_ai , revealing the behind-the-scenes process of creating Living Paintings. The discussion delves into the way theyre filmed, created, and how I use their software to relight the performers.

Im happy to announce that Beeble now supports Sounds of a Sphere! I reached out to them, seeing that what they do was the key to having better looking Living Paintings and more of them. I'd like to thank them for believing in us and what we do <3

Beforehand, I would manually paint highlights and shadows over multiple frames and run an image synthesis algorithm to blend my painting touch ups with the performer. It was arduous, taking way to freaking long, and it often failed...
Now, I can move lights around in post as if I was back on set.

This is the kind of AI software that I can get behind. It remains merely a tool - and thats what AI will always only ever be for me. Simply put, making art becomes so boring if you let AI do too much of the work. It saps all the pride and spiritual satisfaction out of a personal work.

'Sandikala' in Balinese folklore marks the twilight hour when the boundary between the human and spirit worlds grows thin, and spirits are said to roam the earth. Gus Teja’s suling awakens his collaborator in Legong dance, conjuring the spirit with each breath.

Our living paintings are being exhibited once more at Aotea Centre this October 11/12th for the Auckland Diwali Festival!

Imagine a relaxing in a luxurious lounge space while enjoying a 10 metre wide music and visual art installation, your free turmeric latte in hand (courtesy of the alchemists at @motherindia.care)

Footage from our relaxing chillout "Shanti" lounge at last years Auckland Diwali Festival 2024.

Featuring Living Paintings projected across a ten metre wall, visitors could take a break from the high energy outside, relax with a turmeric latte and experience Indian classical music inside beautiul works of art.
