When I say the jokes write themselves, I mean that yes, I divorced my husband, came out to my mom (again!!), and promptly moved into a new apartment above a lesbian bar. No one believes that my new address was truly just a happy coincidence, but if you REALLY know me, you know how likely it is that I missed some important geographic details when first signing the lease.

I remember the first summer after moving to Seattle. Wildrose happened to be one of the first bars I went to (the signs were all there), and all I really remember is standing in a long line with some girls I had just met who made fun of me for being young, married, and clearly confused– still finding a sense of solace in my little glass closet. Kind of ironic, I guess.

I ended up at Wildrose Pride every June after that, and these are the moments I look back on and wonder how it took me so long to do what I needed to do. And apparently, what I needed to do was be reborn into a bedroom right above a dance floor where the Black Eyed Peas shook the floorboards every weekend.

I will say that living above a bar is not for the weak. If you’re considering this route: blackout curtains, white noise, and some serious ear plugs… or a girlfriend with a quiet apartment a few blocks away recommended. by @souperioritycomplex
