I originally wrote Roadside Cross as a poem about plague pillars when I was visiting family in Czech Republic last year and visited the Sedlec Ossuary. It’s about being remembered by what you’ve provided the world, but being forgotten for who you were as a person. I haven’t named my electric mandolin yet so drop your name suggestions 🔥🔥

“If you have got a thought, put it to lyric,
Let them all sing along to the words,
Let them not understand it,
Let them not mean if,
Just let them feel it,

Craning our necks to see the crowns
On all the stone sculptures,
Half of Europe dead, bones bleached,
And meticulously sculpted,
We do not speak of the dead
Unless we deem them worth it,
There’s a cross on the side of the road,
There is beauty in the fallen,

I’m not an image, make not an icon of me,
Threadbare and seething, I am the real thing,
Mend me if you deem me worth your mind,
But darling, I beg of you,
Let me be loved in my time.”
