World Mental Health Day 2026 💚 Lived Experiences Heard: Real voices, real change This World Mental Health Day, we're sharing powerful stories of lived experiences from our community that highlight the positive impact of connection, nature and shared experiences on mental wellbeing. From walking the South West Coast Path through grief and loss, to finding friendship, support and hope through community walks, these lived experiences remind us why listening matters, and how the trail can be transformational. Read our blog to hear three inspiring stories from Paul, our Community Engagement lead in Torbay; community partners, Sunrise Cornwall CIC (offering support to people exposed to suicide); and Cherie, one of our valuable Coast Path Connector volunteers in Plymouth. These stories show that the South West Coast Path is more than a walking route; for many, it is a place of reflection, connection and healing. We remain committed to listening, learning and creating opportunities for people to feel heard, supported and valued, while championing the many ways that time outdoors can contribute to positive mental wellbeing. A huge thank you to Paul, Sunrise Cornwall CIC, and Cherie for sharing their stories. ➡ https://blog.southwestcoastpath.org.uk/2026/10/07/world-mental-health-day-2026-real-voices-real-change/ by @southwestcoastpath
Postcards from the Path A gorgeous early autumnal photo of the path in @exmoornp looking back towards some of England's highest sea cliffs, before the descent into Lynmouth. Our community engagement work focuses on helping people access and enjoy the South West Coast Path, creating opportunities for people who may not otherwise have the chance to experience it. We have five hubs in the South West, including Cornwall, where our community engagement lead, Jack, has recently partnered with Kernow Recovery Community (KRC) to deliver six walks over the summer. These walks have been so successful that in the coming months we are looking forward to starting a regular monthly activity with KRC. Jack says, 💬The KRC proved to be a wonderful group to support onto the Path. We battled heat and heavy rain, and everyone there had a great time. It was good to add something to the amazing work they do, and I look forward to working with them in the future." KRC participant said, 💬I had the best day out.” About Kernow Recovery Community KRC evolved from the need for a safe space for people in early recovery, either from drugs and alcohol or mental health. Last month our National Trail Officer, Lorna, headed to Dorset and had a productive day with the Area Rep volunteer for the Abbotsbury to South Haven Point stretch, discussing the opportunities and challenges along this section of the trail. Did you know we have 12 Area Reps covering the 630-mile route? Each one cares for a section of the path and is supported by our fantastic local reps, helping us keep this world-class trail in great condition. Thanks to our volunteers for being our eyes and ears on the trail, and to Lorna for capturing a slice of the Dorset path 🎥 by @southwestcoastpath
Postcards from the Path A stunning day out on the Coast Path today and we don’t think that Mother Nature has got the autumn memo. It really felt like summer had returned. ☀️ Did you get out on the Path today? 📷 Gurnard’s Head, West Cornwall by @southwestcoastpath
Today, we are celebrating National Poetry Day 🌈 Our members never cease to inspire us with their South West Coast Path stories. While many share their experiences through the popular Completers section of our bi-annual Trailblazing magazine, this month we received something a little different: a wonderful poem from Jackie Counter and Graham Green, who spent 12 years holidaying and walking sections of the SWCP until completing the trail this year 👏 Perfectly timed for National Poetry Day 2026, with its theme of Wonder, the poem captures the magic, commitment and endurance required for a journey along the 630-mile Coast Path. 🥾 Dreaming of a really, really big walk? Taking on a thru-hike takes preparation, passion, and plenty of positivity. Growing up in North Devon with the South West Coast Path on his doorstep, adventurer and thru-hiker Tom Lowe has an idea of what it takes. In his blog, A Love Letter to Really Really Big Walks, Tom shares reflections, lessons learned, and top tips from his long-distance hiking adventures, including tackling the incredible Pacific Crest Trail, a staggering 2,650-mile journey from the Mexican border to the Canadian border. “Thru-hiking gifts us new rituals, and rhythms. It’s a chance to escape the rat race, put away the black mirror, forget the day of the week, and wake, walk, and sleep by the sun.” Whether you're dreaming of your first multi-day adventure or planning a full South West Coast Path thru-hike, Tom's insights are packed with inspiration for taking that first step. Are you tempted? 🔗 Read the blog via the link in our bio or go to ➡ https://blog.southwestcoastpath.org.uk/2026/09/22/thru-hiking-adventure/ by @southwestcoastpath
