The use of imperfect pearls in these deer hide, turquoise and abalone earrings is intentional. They honor Yaqui resistance and resilience. During the colonial pearl industry in the Sea of Cortéz, Yaqui divers, who endured forced labor, sometimes kept imperfect pearls to help provide for their families. What might have been considered a less valuable good became a means of caring for their families and asserting their agency. Wearing these pearls is a small way of carrying that story forward. They are a reminder that resistance can be found in survival, in family, and in reclaiming what was taken.

Dear relatives, there are now 3K of you here! What started as a little corner of the internet, where I shared my beadwork has grown into a community around handmade art, creativity, connection, and the stories we carry with us. I am incredibly grateful!

Because I’m currently raising money for @manywintersgatheringofelders, I don’t want to celebrate this milestone with the sale or discount. Instead, I’d love to celebrate by giving back and by asking you to help me get the word out about the fundraiser for a community event I care deeply about.

I’m so excited about our strong start!! So far, we’ve raised $968!!! That’s amazing! 🤩 We’re nearly half way to my goal of $2K! Thank you everyone who has supported by shopping, by re-sharing posts, and telling your networks! If you can, please spread the word ☺️. We want to make sure the committee has the funds they need to keep our elders and community fed and cared for during the four-day gathering. I said I rarely make sets, but in my defense, this was only a coincidence 😆 turquoise, and coral come together in a classic combination along with the warmth of copper. Personally, I think this would be great for a couple who wants to coordinate without being too obvious or matchy-matchy. These are currently available in my shop, South-Wind–Design.com. My mom’s garden was full of flowers: roses, gladiolus, birds of paradise, gardenias, and daisies, among others. On any given day, you were sure to see butterflies and/or humming birds (who really loved the blossoms on our aloe vera) breezing through for a snack. While I typically don’t do sets, I couldn’t decide which earring idea was best—so, there are two options for those who like a coordinated look! Pyramids in teal, coppery brown, and golden. These are mixed metal pieces with half-circle brass findings, 14k gold filled ear wires and clasp-free chain that will slip right over your head. I bought these discontinued cube beads without a clue on how I’d use them. Then, bam! It hit me late last night and had me stitching until the weee hours of the morning.
