Sovereign Hill, Ballarat, 1994. Just before panning for gold with my classmates. Two of them found a hefty nugget and retired at the age of 11. The rest of us were forced to complete our education and go about our lives, working in a range of industries. The years have gone by, and time has aged me, but inside a voice continues to whisper - “Sammy, your lucky nugget awaits.” And so I shall return at last to Ballarat to perform the final “Hero Complex” for 2026 on Saturday 24th of October as part of the @melbfringe encore season. For are not all entertainers ultimately filthy gold diggers, sifting audience members through their rusty metal trays in the hope of striking it rich?
