What a day. On Sunday, over 1,000 people joined us to celebrate the grand opening of the new building at Yester House—a remarkable milestone for Southern Vermont Arts Center and our community.

We are incredibly grateful to everyone who came out to share in this moment. Thank you to the artists whose work fills these spaces with inspiration, to our dedicated Board of Trustees for their leadership and support, and to Lyman Orton and Janice Izzi, and Bob and Mary-Anne Van Degna's extraordinary vision in helping make this future possible.

Seeing so many members of our community explore the galleries, gather with friends, and celebrate the arts together was truly unforgettable.

Thank you for being part of this historic day. This is only the beginning.

Explore the largest sculpture park and collection of art about Vermont 💚

Tucked in the foothills of Mt. Equinox is a unique community hub. Since 1922, @sovtarts in Manchester has fostered a love of fine arts, performing arts, and nature. It’s easy to see why so many artists are inspired by Vermont’s beauty!

🦋 Southern Vermont Arts Center (SVAC) isn’t just a museum. Set on 100 acres with panoramic views, SVAC is a creative destination where galleries, gardens, performances, and education come together. You could spend all day exploring and still find something new!

SVAC is opening a highly anticipated exhibit called For the Love of Vermont: The Lyman Orton Collection. This is the world’s largest private collection of VT art, with more than 250 paintings. The collection is grouped by theme (rather than artist), so you can see how different artists interpret similar Vermont scenes.

For over 50 years, Lyman Orton (proprietor of the @vermontcountrystore) has been on a mission to bring Vermont art home. He created a visual history that showcases the beauty of everyday life, from maple sugaring to village dances. His collection is on display in a new building with gorgeous views!

I’ve always loved wandering the grounds and galleries of the Southern Vermont Arts Center in Manchester, Vermont, and now there’s an exciting new reason to visit. 🎨🌿

The @sovtarts has officially opened its stunning new Yester House wing, a thoughtfully designed building with two floors and 12,000 square feet whose metal shape offers a contemporary juxtaposition to the historic Greek Revival building it’s connected to.

The space brings together art, architecture, and nature - and long-range views of the Battenkill Valley - in a way that feels distinctly Vermont and pushes the space into a museum-class category.

One of the inaugural (and permanent) exhibitions, For the Love of Vermont, the Lyman Orton Collection (@ortonfortheloveofvermont), proprietor of the @vermontcountrystore, celebrates the places and traditions that define life in the Green Mountain State. 🏔️

Inside, you’ll find 300 pieces of gifted artwork depicting beloved Vermont scenes, from country stores and white-steepled churches to agricultural fairs, rural landscapes, and everyday moments and its people that capture the character of our state. It’s a beautiful collection of work that celebrates Vermonters, and I can’t wait for you to see it!🍃✨

The new museum features gallery spaces on both levels, connected by an elevator for accessibility or by a beautiful staircase crafted from Danby marble, Vermont’s famous state stone.

After touring the galleries, grab lunch on the patio at CurATE and take in some of the most beautiful mountain views in Southern Vermont. Then make a day of it by walking the sculpture trails, exploring the outdoor installations scattered across the 120-acre campus, and enjoying one of Vermont’s premier cultural destinations.🍽️

The Yester House and its opening exhibitions welcome visitors starting June 7, making this the perfect summer outing to rediscover the Southern Vermont Arts Center in Manchester. 🖼️⛰️

Mount Equinox Summer by Rockwell Kent. Oil on canvas, 1940.

Rockwell Kent (1882 – 1971) had a deep connection to Vermont, living on a 200-acre farm on the slopes of Red Mountain in Arlington, Vermont, from 1919 to 1925. This six-year period served as a critical turning point that solidified his status as a highly influential American painter, printmaker, illustrator, writer, and adventurer. He blended rugged, real-world wilderness exploration with a stark, dramatic visual style.
