“Cheap rent” isn’t cheap on day one
It’s usually 2 months deposit + 1 month upfront
That 15,000 condo? You’re paying 45,000 before you even move in

2. Deposits are where people get burned. In theory you get it back… In reality? Cleaning, “damage”, random deductions. Sometimes fair, sometimes not

3. Pictures lie more than you think. Wide angles, old photos, perfect lighting. You show up and it feels smaller, darker, older

4. Contracts are not standardized. Every landlord has their own rules. Some clauses are straight up bad if you don’t read properly

5. Newer ≠ better deal. Looks amazing… but smaller rooms, higher rent, less value per m²
Older condos = more space for cheaper (if you pick right)

6. Facing the sun matters A LOT. West-facing = your room turns into an oven. AC working overtime → higher bills

7. Location is everything (not just the area). Same price… totally different lifestyle. 5 min walk to BTS = perfect. 15 min in Bangkok heat = you’ll regret it

8. Film everything before moving in. Walk through with landlord, record EVERYTHING. Every scratch, every corner = your protection

9. Leaving early = say goodbye to your deposit
Most contracts are 12 months. Break it early? Don’t expect that money back

10. Agents aren’t always on your side. Some are great
Some just want the deal done and disappear after.

Still worth it… just don’t walk in blind

Thailand isn’t just one destination… it feels totally different depending on the month

☀️ Nov to Mar (best overall)
Go to Phuket, Krabi, Chiang Mai
This is peak season for a reason
Blue skies, calm seas, island tours run smoothly

Quick note: Krabi isn’t an island, it’s a province
It’s your base for places like Railay and island hopping

🔥 Apr to May (hottest months)
It gets seriously hot, especially in Bangkok
Best move is heading to Koh Samui or Koh Tao

This is also when Songkran happens 💦
Fun, but expect crowds and chaos

Avoid Chiang Mai around this time (burning season air quality)

🌧️ Jun to Oct (rainy season)
This is where most people get it wrong

West coast (Phuket + Krabi)
→ rough seas, cancelled boats, beaches not the same

Better option: Koh Samui + Koh Phangan
→ different weather pattern, much less rain

Rain usually comes in short bursts, but sea conditions matter more

🌤️ Nov to Dec (sweet spot)
Everything starts opening up again
Great time for Krabi and Phuket

Good weather, better prices before peak crowds hit

Thailand isn’t “bad” at any time of year
But choosing the wrong coast = bad beaches, cancelled tours, wasted money

📌 Save this before you book
This one decision can change your whole trip

1. I wouldn’t rush into an apartment. You’ll be living there long term — don’t choose based on first impressions.

2. Fancy condos look good on paper. In reality, most people barely use the gym or pool.

3. I’d prioritise having a proper kitchen. Eating out is easy… but it adds up fast.

4. Location > price. Saving money on rent means nothing if you waste hours commuting.

5. I’d walk the area at different times before signing anything. Bangkok feels very different day vs night.

6. I’d build a routine early. It’s easy to live like you’re on holiday for months.

7. I’d handle visas and paperwork immediately. Delays = stress later.

8. I’d learn basic Thai from day one. Even a little effort changes everything.

9. I’d focus on a small, solid circle instead of trying to meet everyone.

10. I’d treat life here like real life — not a long trip.

Follow for the next post: areas I’d actually choose to live in 🏙️

Things I wish I knew before coming to Thailand 🇹🇭

1. Convenience stores are basically your lifeline. Food, drinks, SIMs, meds… even paying bills.

2. You naturally slow down here. The heat forces you to chill whether you like it or not.

3. Ice is in almost every drink. Even beer sometimes… and yeah, it’s normal.

4. Taking shoes off becomes second nature. Homes, temples, and even some cafés.

5. Street food becomes your go-to. Quick, cheap, and often better than restaurants.

6. Scooters are everywhere. You’ll hear them before you spot them.

7. Fruit becomes a daily habit. Fresh mango, pineapple, watermelon on every corner.

8. Your day revolves around air con. Malls, cafés, trains = your cool-down spots.

9. Cash is still king in many places. Markets, small food spots, taxis.

10. Thailand changes your pace of life. After a while, you stop rushing and just enjoy it.

Thailand might be changing the game… 👀🇹🇭

There’s talk about reducing visa-free stays from 60 days ↓

Not confirmed yet… but it’s being discussed

Why?

👉 Most people don’t even stay 60 days
👉 They want “higher quality” tourism
👉 And better control over long stays

Real talk…

For most travellers, this won’t change much
90% of people come for 1–3 weeks anyway

But if you’re planning to stay longer, work remotely, or bounce around Thailand…
this could affect you

—

Honestly, Thailand is still one of the easiest countries to travel and live in

This isn’t them “closing doors”
It’s them tightening things up a bit

—

If you’re thinking about coming…
this is your reminder not to overthink it

Just come 🇹🇭

👇 What do you think about this change? Good move or bad idea?

Thailand can be cheap…
but only if you don’t move like a tourist the whole time 👀

Here’s where most people mess up 👇

1️⃣ Thinking everywhere is cheap
Places like Phuket and popular islands add up FAST if you don’t plan ahead

2️⃣ Staying in one place and calling it “Thailand”
Bangkok ≠ the islands ≠ the north
Every region feels like a different country

3️⃣ Renting a bike with zero experience
Looks fun… until it isn’t
Thailand roads aren’t beginner-friendly

4️⃣ Treating temples like tourist spots
Places like Wat Phra Kaew = respect, proper dress, no exceptions

5️⃣ Booking the first tour you see
Same trip, different price
Always compare before you commit

6️⃣ Only eating in “nice” restaurants
The best food? It’s where locals are eating

7️⃣ Trying to do too much
Thailand looks small… it’s not
Travel days will drain your whole trip

8️⃣ Ignoring how long transport takes
Flights, ferries, delays… it adds up quick

9️⃣ Rushing everything
Slow down and actually experience the place

🔟 Not adapting to how Thailand works
Once you do… everything becomes EASY

—

The difference between an average trip and an unreal one?

It’s not money… it’s how you move 🤝🇹🇭

👇 Be honest… what mistake did YOU make your first time?

You step off the plane…
still tired, a bit disoriented…

but something feels different.

The air hits you first.
Warm. Heavy. Real.

Then it starts to sink in…
you’re actually here.

No more planning.
No more “one day.”
No more watching other people do it.

You did it.

For a moment, everything slows down.
All the stress, the noise, the overthinking back home…
it just fades.

And you realise something:
this might be one of the happiest moments of your life.

Not because everything is perfect…
but because you finally moved.

You finally stepped out of your routine.
Out of the same streets, same people, same thoughts.

And now you’re here —
in a completely different world.

New energy.
New people.
New version of you.

It’s not even about Thailand specifically…
it’s about what it represents.

Freedom.
Change.
Possibility.

And deep down, you know…
this isn’t just a trip.

This is the start of something.

This is what you really need to live comfortably in Bangkok 👇

1️⃣ Comfortable isn’t “cheap”
Around $800/month (~28k THB) = getting by
For a proper lifestyle, think $1,200–1,500 (42k–52.5k THB)

2️⃣ Central areas cost more (and that’s normal) 📍
Sukhumvit / Asok / Thonglor:
Rent sits around $600–1,200+ (21k–42k+ THB)
You’re paying for convenience, not just the room

3️⃣ Being near BTS/MRT is a game changer 🚆
Walking distance saves time, money, and daily stress
Worth paying an extra $100–200 (3.5k–7k THB)

4️⃣ Cheap outskirts aren’t always cheap ⚠️
Rent: $250–500 (8.7k–17.5k THB)
But longer commutes + transport costs add up quickly

5️⃣ Getting around isn’t free 🚕
Grab: $3–10 per ride (100–350 THB)
Monthly transport can hit $150–300 (5.2k–10.5k THB)

6️⃣ Food is cheap… until you want variety 🍜
Street meals: $1–3
But realistically: $300–600/month (10.5k–21k THB)

7️⃣ Electricity sneaks up on you ⚡
AC is basically mandatory
Expect $50–120/month (1.7k–4.2k THB)

8️⃣ Gym + lifestyle 🏋️
Basic gyms: $30–60
Better ones: $80–150 (1k–5.2k THB)

9️⃣ Social life can drain your budget 🍻
Nights out, bars, events…
Easy $150–400+/month (5.2k–14k THB)

🔟 Real monthly spend (no sugarcoating) 👇
Central Bangkok (near BTS):
👉 $1,300–1,800 (45.5k–63k THB)

Outskirts:
👉 $1,100–1,500 (38.5k–52.5k THB)

—

The reality?
Bangkok isn’t “expensive”…
Most people just set themselves up wrong.

Dial it in properly and life here is different 🇹🇭🔥

If you’re planning to move — what budget are you aiming for?

One day you’ll be on the back of a grab bike at 3am in Bangkok…
and it hits you.

You’re not just existing anymore.
You’re actually living.

Life feels lighter.
The stress you used to carry doesn’t feel as heavy.
And for the first time in a while…
you’re genuinely happy.

Not the forced kind.
Not the “I’m fine” kind.

Real happiness.

It doesn’t happen overnight.
But if you keep chasing what feels right for you…
you’ll get there.

Trust it.

Moving to Bangkok without these is playing on hard mode.

1️⃣ Air fryer
Stop ordering Grab 3x a day 😂. Simple meals, saves money fast. You’ll feel the difference.

2️⃣ Dehumidifier
Bangkok humidity is different. Clothes won’t dry, towels start smelling… this is not optional.

3️⃣ Air purifier
Some days are fine. Some days… not so much.
Especially during burning season. Windows shut, purifier on.

4️⃣ A bike (if you can handle it). Biggest life hack here.
Traffic won’t run your day anymore. But if you’re not confident — don’t risk it.

5️⃣ Mosquito defence
Spray, plug-ins, coils… whatever works. They WILL find you at 3am 😂

Get these right and Bangkok goes from
“why is everything so hard”
to
“yeah… I could live here.”

What would you add to this list?

Songkran 2026 is April 13–15 🌊
But in places like Pattaya (Chon Buri), celebrations can go on even longer with “Wan Lai” 👀

And while Songkran is one of the best times to be in Thailand… not everyone wants to be soaked all day 😅
Good news — you can still enjoy it without getting drenched. Here’s how 👇

1️⃣ Stay indoors (yeah, seriously 😂)
Malls, cafes, and indoor spots are your safest bet.
Even BTS/MRT and skywalks are usually dry zones.

2️⃣ Real talk — there are rules now
Throwing water at people who clearly don’t want to join in can actually get you in trouble.
So if you’re not playing, most people will respect that 🙏

3️⃣ Know the hotspots
If you walk into areas like Siam, Silom, Khao San… you’re basically signing up for it 😂
Those are full-on water fight zones.

⚠️ If you can’t avoid it, be smart
Waterproof your valuables, wear light clothes, and don’t carry anything you care about too much.

These days it’s a bit more organised, and people are more mindful — so you can enjoy Songkran your way.

Wet or dry… it’s still an experience 🇹🇭💦

Would you go all in or try stay dry? 👇
