This is a simulation of how space elevators will look.

Let’s understand the concept of space elevators and whether it is possible or not to make this concept a reality.

A space elevator, also referred to as a space bridge, star ladder, or orbital lift, is a proposed type of planet-to-space transportation system, often depicted in science fiction. The main component would be a cable anchored to the surface and extending into space.

An Earth-based space elevator cannot be constructed with a tall tower supported from below due to its immense weight instead, it would consist of a cable with one end attached to the surface near the equator and the other end attached to a counterweight in space beyond geostationary orbit.

Currently,Available materials are not strong and light enough to make an Earth space elevator practical. Some sources expect that future carbon nanotube (CNT) advances could lead to a practical design. Other sources believe that CNT will never be strong enough. Possible future alternatives include boron nitride nanotubes, diamond nanothreads, and macro-scale single-crystals.

The nearest known black hole, called Gaia BH1, is about 1,500 light-years away.
Thoughts?

Ever feel like Earth’s days just fly by?
See how fast other planets spin around!
Earth gives us 24-hour days, but what if we lived on Jupiter with super short-days or Venus where days last forever?

Check out how long a day is on different planets:
Jupiter: 9 hours, 55 minutes
🪐 Saturn: 10 hours, 33 minutes
Neptune: 16 hours
Uranus: 17 hours,14 minutes
🌏Earth: 23 hours, 56 minutes
Mars: 24 hours, 36 minutes
Mercury: 58 EARTH days, 16 hours
Venus: 2,43,243 EARTH days, 26 minutes

Would you like days to be longer or shorter?
Tell us in the comments!

Starlink by the Numbers: Tracking Satellite Growth

Curious about how Starlink has grown since its first launch in 2019? This video breaks it down. With almost 6,000 satellites out there, 23,944 it is the largest satellite constellation. Keep in mind, that these satellites are more like the size of a small car or a large sofa.

Heads-up northwest Europe. Storm Isha is quite a beast

Weather models have performed very well in capturing this high-wind threat many days in advance. Some weather models were picking up on this storm few days ago.

The universe is going to stop existing one day,
and a fight between two titans will decide our cosmic fate.

On one side of this galactic battlefield, we have all the matter in the universe; on the other side, empty space infused with dark energy.
Whoever wins will destroy the universe in fun ways.
But who will that be?

New signals from deep space!
Astronomers just announced the discovery of 8 potentially alien radio signals, using machine learning to comb through old data sets.
These signals came from 5 different stars, all
within 90 light years of Earth.

One of them came from a G-type star, just like our own sun. Another one mysteriously stopped and reappeared 3 days later. And all were narrowband signals, which are rarely produced by natural sources.

While follow-up observations have not yet confirmed these signals, intensive further study is now underway - and this new machine learning approach to combing signal data could radically accelerate the search for alien intelligence.
It remains to be seen what these signals are.
But this breakthrough suggests that the question of “are we alone?” may not be answered by us humans, but by our machines.

If Earth ever becomes too crowded, or uninhabitable, don’t worry, we can just build some giant tubes in space.
