This Thursday, 4/20, 5-7pm, for MCASD’s FREE 3rd Thursday! A new performance piece by Armando de la Torre titled LA INOCENTE and screenings of Cecilia Vicuña’s PARACAS.

LA INOCENTE
Armando de la Torre

La Inocente features projections, musicians, and other performers interacting with a movable set resembling a house in the Sherman Heights neighborhood of San Diego, where de la Torre’s mother lived. With Earth Day approching, the performative installation connects ideas of mother & child to our relationship with nature and home, highlighting the immediacy of caring for another and caring for mother nature.

Paracas
Cecilia Vicuña
(1983, 18:31 min, color, sound, 16 mm film on video)

Conceived as a visual and sound poem in seven scenes, this animation of a two- thousand-year-old textile in the collection of the Brooklyn Museum invites entrance into a different visual and sonic space: the universe of the pre-Columbian weavers who created the portrait of a ritual procession using a unique three-dimensional looping technique developed in the Paracas/Nazca region. Vicuña interprets the textile as a celebration of the harvest and the Thread of Life on the desert coast of Peru.
