POSTS STORIES REELS

I’m on a dog-sculpting journey.

It’s a lot harder than I thought! I tried sculpting without looking at a photo, and I couldn’t remember exactly how the leg bends or even where the eye should begin. You would think after all this time with our dogs I’d have it down!

Each little sculpture takes me about an hour , and that doesn’t include drying, glazing and firing. It’s definitely not a fast art. It’s a long process with absolutely no guarantee that what comes out of the kiln will look good.

I figure if I keep practicing one day I’ll be able to capture the essence of a particular dog but for now I’m just happy they resemble dogs.

Here’s to beginner sculpting and learning to really see, and learning as I go. 🐶 by @spacebirdpottery

I titled this piece “An Unlikely Friendship” it’s also my sense of humor 😅⚡️I know it’s so ugly but also so perfect in its story you can read below. … it’s a soap/trivet dish. Available for purchase $25.00 shipped.

What if the most meaningful friendship in your life came from someone you never expected?
Someone who quietly became part of your everyday world—so different from you, yet somehow exactly what you needed. Neither of you would have chosen it, but life had other plans.
As time passed, the differences faded, trust took root, and what once seemed unlikely turned into something truly special.
Sometimes, the most beautiful friendships are the ones we never see coming. ❤️ The ones that are truly sent from above.

This is me today in class @firestickpottery having a blast and listening to stories while making a snake soap dish for my guest bath room. by @spacebirdpottery

Hi, I’m Jen Grasmere | Space Bird Pottery and I’m currently a student at Firestick Pottery in Ojai, California.

These are some of my most recent pieces. I’m still fairly new to clay, and while some pieces turn out just the way I imagined, others... not so much! 😊

I thought it would be fun to share the journey—the successes, the failures, and everything in between. I’ll be posting the process, what I’m learning, and the pieces that make it (and the ones that don’t).

I hope you’ll enjoy following along as much as I enjoy creating.

P.S. The kiln in this photo is loaded with work made by fellow students from the studio where I take classes in Ojai. There’s something pretty special about seeing everyone’s creations waiting to be transformed by the fire.
