NASA has released more than 800 GB of Artemis II lunar science data, including over 11,000 full-resolution images and videos, some never previously released.
The collection was captured as Reid Wiseman, Victor Glover, Christina Koch and Jeremy Hansen traveled around the Moon aboard Orion in April 2026.
It also includes 8.5 hours of the astronauts’ recorded observations as they described the lunar surface in real time.
NASA says it is the first planetary science dataset captured primarily by humans in more than half a century.
The mission lasted 10 days. We’ll be studying what they brought back for years. by @spaceeves

No stars in the sky. Shadows pointing different ways. Does that mean the Moon photos were staged?
Camera exposure explains the missing stars. Perspective and uneven ground explain the different-looking shadows.
Before counting light sources, check where the camera is ,and what the shadows fall across. by @spaceeves

A moving flag. A footprint that doesn’t match the museum boot. Both look strange until you check the details.
The astronauts moved the flag by handling its pole. The footprint came from a lunar overshoe worn over the spacesuit boot not the boot you see on the museum suit.

Would you pay $750,000 if you could afford it?

Virgin Galactic opened a new tranche of spaceflight reservations priced at $750,000 per person.
The company later said the tranche was oversubscribed and booked out ahead of schedule, representing more than $50 million in expected future revenue.
Commercial flights with its new spacecraft are currently targeted to begin in 2027. by @spaceeves

NASA’s Artemis II mission captured this view on April 6, 2026 as the Moon completely blocked the Sun.
Orion can be seen in the foreground.
But look closer.
Saturn appears just below the Moon, while Mars is visible farther to the right. Earthlight can even be seen faintly illuminating part of the lunar disk.

The sunlight reaching Neptune left the Sun more than four hours ago.
Here on Earth, the trip takes about eight minutes. Follow the journey past all eight planets and watch that travel time add up.

In the year 1181, astronomers in China, Japan and the Arab world recorded a mysterious new star appearing in the night sky.
It remained visible for around 185 days before disappearing.
Today, astronomers believe the spectacular nebula Pa 30 is the remnant of that ancient supernova.

ESA has tested a six-wheeled rover prototype in Spain's Tabernas Desert, using the Mars-like terrain to prepare for future missions.
The tests support the Rosalind Franklin mission, which aims to land on Mars in 2030 and drill beneath the surface to search for signs of past life.

Light is fast. Space is just that big.
About 1.3 seconds from Earth to the Moon. More than four years to the nearest star beyond the Sun. Roughly 100,000 years across the Milky Way.

NASA astronaut Nichole Ayers captured this extraordinary event from aboard the International Space Station on July 3, 2025.

It is called a gigantic jet, a rare and powerful electrical discharge that erupts from the top of a thunderstorm and travels upward into Earth’s upper atmosphere.

The ISS gives astronauts a perspective on storms that almost nobody on the ground could ever see, helping scientists study how these unusual events form.

Venus didn’t turn around. Our view changed.
When Venus overtakes Earth on its faster, inner orbit, it can appear to move backwards against the distant stars.
That’s retrograde motion, a change in perspective, not a planet reversing course.
And no, it doesn’t explain your bad week. by @spaceeves

When you map humanity instead of geography, Earth starts to look completely different.
These maps reveal the enormous networks we have built across the planet: roads, railways, airports, shipping ports, cities, electrical grids and submarine fiber optic cables carrying the internet between continents.
Individually they are easy to overlook. Together they form an immense human-made system connecting billions of people, moving food and goods, supplying electricity and transmitting information around the world.
This is what modern civilization looks like when you zoom all the way out. by @spaceeves
